Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to plan and implement communications and marketing strategies through social media and web platforms.

Essential Functions:

40% Establishes, maintains and manages all primary social media accounts for the College. Produces, edits, updates and posts relevant, engaging content on a variety of online platforms. Monitors analytics and SEO to optimize social media strategy. Stays up-to-date on new digital innovations and their impact on marketing and student recruitment. Monitors content from other College-affiliated social media accounts to ensure accuracy and maintain branding, making changes and suggestions as needed

25% Creates and implements strategic digital marketing campaigns.

10% Assists the Webmaster with content management and maintenance on the College’s web site. Produces, edits, updates and posts content.

10% Produces photography and videography for social media and digital media campaigns.

10% Consults with groups outside of the Marketing office to develop and implement social media strategies supporting college departments or events. Creates new social media accounts and email newsletters for departments or campus groups as needed. Lead monthly meetings for social media collaboration team to create a cohesive presentation of the College across all social media platforms and accounts.

5% Conduct social listening across all social media channels to monitor mentions of the College. Monitor social media channels for potential safety threats and report findings to Campus Police. Monitor social media channels for potential student or employee conduct issues and report findings to Behavioral Intervention Team and/or Bias Education Referral Team.

Job Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, social media or related field

· Three years of experience in social media strategy, marketing, communications, public relations or related field

Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience

Financial Impact:

Employee is not held responsible financially; however, employee might be called upon to explain the circumstances of waste, etc.

Magnitude of Impact:

The Social Media and Web Specialist has the potential to impact the number of students who enroll, the number of people who attend an event, the communication to people who during a crisis situation, the dissemination of information about the College and more. The communication would impact the entire College community and outside community. The outcome could be immediate since much of the communication is in real-time. If a problem were to arise, the director would be called on to intervene.

Responsibility for Accuracy:

Typical errors might include incorrect or out-of-date information. Accuracy is crucial in this position, since accuracy establishes credibility not only for the department, but for the College. Students, particularly, often rely on social media as a way to find accurate answers to common questions. It is hoped that the employee will recognize when the information he/she has been given is inaccurate before the information is disseminated to the public. If that does not happen, the employee’s supervisor or teammates are likely to catch an error that can be corrected online. Work quality and quantity is discussed in quarterly performance evaluations.

Nature of Contacts:

The typical nature of these contacts is to provide and get information, to relay and discuss questions received online and to seek additional understanding. Additionally, the Social Media and Web Specialist must always keep in mind that the content and/or responses he/she posts online (public or not) must be in line with the College’s brand; he/she must engage in brand advocacy and reputation management.

Physical Demands:

Sitting for long periods of time. Staring at a computer screen for long periods. Walking. Typing. Manual dexterity is essential for taking notes, writing articles on a computer. Ability to carry and transport photography and videography equipment.

Hazards:

Ongoing possibility of muscle-related problems related to sitting all day, eye stress related to editing; occasional potential for illness related to environmental conditions.

The employee is exposed to the student population and general faculty and staff and could be exposed to an unforeseen incident i.e. workplace/campus violence.

Pay Rate: $37,280 - $45,800.00/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.
