Marian University Leighton School of Nursing has an exciting opportunity for an Academic Advisor. Major responsibilities include academic advising and coaching, recruitment,and retention of prospective and current undergraduate nursing students. The advisor interacts with faculty, professional staff, students and other college personnel to enhance and facilitate the admission, progression, and graduation of students. This position reports to the Director of Student Success Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs all responsibilities in accordance with established policies and procedures of Marian University and the Leighton School of Nursing (LSON)
  • Serves as a representative of Marian University with the community.
  • Provides academic advising for pre-nursing and undergraduate nursing students.
  • Presents to students at application sessions, and other campus events.
  • Coaches all students toward academic success.
  • Assists students with the registration of classes.
  • Advises and refers student to appropriate department as needed.
  • Monitors and documents student progress from admission, progression through graduation regarding grades, GPA,degree audits and program requirements.
  • Maintains students files to ensure compliance with the LSON requirements.
  • Communicates concerns about student progress to student, faculty, Assistant Dean of Nursing and Dean Leighton School of Nursing.
  • Serves on assigned LSON Committees.
  • Coordinates event days with other university offices as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s in Higher Education Administration or College Student Affairs strongly prefered
  • 3-5 years’ experience advising preferred.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to advise multiple populations of students simultaneously..
