Scope of Job:
Responsible for counseling prospective students, both entering freshmen and transfer students, parents, educational administrators and other interested persons regarding admissions requirements, policies and procedures, as well as coordination and management of recruitment events in an assigned region outside of the Rio Grande Valley. Provide professional knowledge, advice, and counseling services regarding the institutional recruitment, admissions, financial aid and scholarship process.

Description of Duties:
• Represents the university to prospective students and their families with the highest degree of professionalism in the Laredo/Webb and surrounding areas.
• Regularly meet with Laredo College faculty and advisors to distribute information about UTRGV Social work programs.
• Attend high school career fairs and schedule information sessions about BSW & MSSW programs.
• Responsible for one-on-one or group counseling of prospective students, both entering freshmen and transfer students, parents, educational administrators and other interested persons regarding UTRGV enrollment policies and procedures and other areas related to the educational decision process.
• Travels frequently to high schools, colleges and other learning institutions to publicize and explain the benefits of higher education, the University’s admission, financial aid and scholarship process to prospective students, their parents and other interested groups.
• Creates and delivers presentations on admissions, financial aid, and scholarship requirements as well as programs of study, student life and other university services to high school students, parents, paraprofessionals, counselors, and other administrators.
• Assists and tracks students through the admissions, financial aid, and scholarship application process.
• Accepts, codes, and takes necessary actions on time-sensitive enrollment documents to ensure proper processing and student record updates.
• Serves as a liaison to create and maintain a network with high school and community college counselors.
• Organizes and conducts recruitment activities for assigned student groups and their parents, high schools and/or territories that support achieving university enrollment goals.
• Uses statistical data to identify target recruitment markets.
• Completes weekly and monthly reports on recruitment efforts.
• Interprets and maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures pertaining to admissions, financial aid & scholarships.
• Counsels scholarship students and makes recommendations and/or decisions regarding new student scholarship awards.
• Travels to home campus as needed to participate in trainings, meetings, new student orientations and recruitment events.
• Prepares and tracks all documents needed for travel and reimbursement.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific supervision from assigned supervisor.

May supervise assigned staff.

Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University.

Licenses/Certifications:
As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in a public/student facing position, including counseling students in admissions, financial aid, scholarships or a related area.

Preferred Experience:
Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Ability to work weekends and/or evenings on a constant basis; frequent travel is required.

Other:
Exceptional planning and organizational skills. Must enjoy interacting with people. Ability to interpret college/university lingo into everyday language. Must be ready to inspire and motivate the next generation of students to attend UTRGV and work independently in a location outside the Rio Grande Valley. This position requires residency in the assigned region, such as San Antonio/Houston area or the Laredo/Webb and surrounding areas. Recruitment territory includes but is not limited to the Laredo/Webb and surrounding areas.

Note: This position is to work primarily in Laredo/Webb County, TX.
