Summary

Leads external reporting processes to prepare financial statements and tax form compilations. Ensures that all transactions and financial statements are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and federal, state, and Baylor College of Medicine guidelines.

This position is largely remote, though some on-site presence is required at least once per month and from time to time, dependent on project activity.

Job Duties
  • Prepares, reviews and approves financial entries and transactions, such as journal entries or purchase orders. Performs complex tax preparation, tax research and tax planning under general supervision. Provides work direction and technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Develops and prepares tax reports and payments to include monthly GAAP reports.
  • Develops, implements and evaluates new and improved processes related to GAAP and tax mapping.
  • Oversees and participates in tax compilation filings.
  • Participates and manages complex audit requests.
  • Maintains legislative materials by reviewing, interpreting, and implementing new or revised laws.
  • Maintains compliance with regulations by forwarding required information to federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Revises procedures by developing and streamlining procedures and worksheets for calculation of tax provisions.
  • Identifies profitability by analyzing tax information; calculating key ratios; identifying areas of tax savings.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited four- year university
  • Six years full-time professional accounting experience with demonstrated progressive advancement
  • Excellent oral / written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated record of consistent strong performance
  • Experience in current versions of Microsoft Office products. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in Excel, including data manipulation, pivot tables, lookup, etc.
  • Experience in SAP, highly preferred
  • Experience in healthcare industry
  • CPA or working toward CPA certification
