MALCOLM X COLLEGE


Malcolm X College is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Specialist to provide professional HR services to staff and faculty and facilitate the coordination, administration, and delivery of HR programs. The HR Specialist participates in integrating HR initiatives and programs with business plans to achieve the strategic goals and operational objectives of the college.

The Office of Human Resources supports a diverse group of approximately 375 faculty and 355 staff as well as student workers and other stakeholders at MXC. Our drive is to support and promote the MXC mission which is to provide accessible liberal arts and health-focused education that fosters personal and professional achievement. As a campus HR team, we strive to create a cohesive and collaborative environment that displays all MXC core values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Posts faculty and non-faculty vacancies and supports, coordinates, and accurately tracks the hiring process for faculty and non-faculty vacancies.
  • Partners with Talent Acquisition team to fulfill hiring needs.
  • Participates in the interviewing and selection process as required.
  • Coordinates the new hire orientation and onboarding process, reviewing and processing required forms, responding to inquiries, providing new employee orientation, and ensuring a smooth onboarding of employees.
  • Works in a complex environment that includes campus and district office initiatives.
  • Multitasks and prioritizes to manage multiple competing projects and tasks.
  • Completes special projects as needed.
  • Interprets and explains HR policies and regulations relating to employee and labor relations, salary administration, leaves of absence, and related employment matters to employees.
  • Helps ensure the accuracy of HR data and makes corrections as needed.
  • Assists in delivering HR programs in areas including learning and organizational development, performance management, employee relations, and labor relations.
  • Delivers high levels of customer service when responding to inquiries regarding policy, pay and other HR procedures.
  • Analyzes HR workforce trends and identifies areas for process improvements.
QUALIFICATION
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience will be taken into consideration in lieu of a college degree.
  • Previous recruitment experience preferred
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Microsoft SharePoint and Teams knowledge is encouraged
  • Professionalism and excellent customer services skills including face-to-face, email, and phone are required along with the ability to work and collaborate as a team
  • Attention to detail and organization is required
  • Must have the ability to learn and adapt based on continuous improvement of the department
  • Willingness to learn and grow
  • Ability to take ownership of projects
  • Some union experience is preferred
  • PHR/SPHR and/or SHRM-CP/SCP desirable
  • Three years of work experience in human resources, recruitment, customer service, administration, or a related area of work
  • Familiarity and/or experience working with PeopleSoft HCM or talent management systems (i.e. Taleo) highly desirable
