Director of Planned Giving

General Statement of Job

The Director of Planned Giving is a full-time position. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Development, this position will support Missouri Southern’s development program by identifying, cultivating and soliciting prospects with the capacity and inclination to make planned gift commitments.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

Identify, cultivate and solicit planned giving prospects by:

  • Maintaining a portfolio of prospects as assigned by the AVP for Development.
  • Utilizing database and CRM software to identify, research and track prospects.
  • Utilize third party marketing platform to promote planned giving opportunities to constituents.
  • Conducting a minimum of 240 personal and phone visits per year.
  • Submitting a minimum of 36 planned giving proposals per year.

Work collaboratively with the Development Office and Alumni Office personnel to move prospects through the development pipeline: identification; qualification; cultivation; solicitation; stewardship.

Maintain clear communication within CRM software and with appropriate Office of Development staff on outcomes of visits and solicitations.

Work in concert with Office of Development personnel and the Director of Alumni & Donor Relations to effectively execute stewardship activities designed to enhance the relationship between donors and the University.

Assist in writing, editing and design of various donor correspondence pieces including appeals and acknowledgements.

Some national and regional travel and attendance at evening and/or weekend activities will be required.

Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university is required.

Two years employment experience in higher education and/or development setting is preferred.

Knowledge of planned giving/estate planning terminology and strategy is preferred
