This position will be the lead in planning, directing, and managing the information security posture for CHPC at the University of Utah. The CHPC resources comprise HPC Clusters, Virtual machine deployments, storage, and other systems. The applicant will work with the CHPC team to ensure that services operate in a manner consistent with U of U policy 4-004 and comply within the targeted scope (security zones). Depending on the scope, compliance must meet one or more of the following: HIPAA, FISMA Moderate, ITAR, CMMC 2.0, NIST 800-171 rev2, CUI. The applicant will work in day-to-day operations to improve security posture, analyze threats, develop counter measures, and advise department security policies and procedures. Additional daily operations may include installing new software releases and system upgrades, evaluating, and installing patches, and resolving system related problems. The applicant will also monitor system configuration and data files to ensure data integrity, system integrity and compliance.

COMPENSATION: 75900 to 148100. Commensurate with experience

WORK SCHEDULE: Full Time. Day

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for administration of specific systems in various security zones meeting targeted security standards. Develops and maintains compliance policies documentation for each compliance environment. Work closely with system administrators and as a system administrator to make sure deployments are complying with documented procedures. Make sure scheduled required reviews and audits take place and are documented in a timely fashion.

Oversee the information security of the center. Advise and train department staff and user base. Responsible for security incident response. Review log files for indication of inappropriate or unusual activity. Oversee and review vulnerability scans and address them on a routine basis. Work with the University of Utah Institutional Security Office (ISO) to leverage tools, techniques & resources as appropriate. Attend departmental & institutional meetings and security conferences and participate, contribute and/or present as appropriate, network with peer institutes and form collaborative relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires an associate’s degree in a related area and at least 8 years of experience in the field.
Department Specific Requirements

  • Experience in Unix/Linux (RHEL or RHEL equivalent) system administration
  • Experience in deploying environments to meet HIPAA, FISMA Moderate, ITAR, CMMC 2.0, NIST 800-171 rev2, CUI standards in a Unix/Linux environment
  • Ability to develop recommendations to meet compliance needs
  • Strong system administration skills in a heterogeneous computing environment required
  • Excellent organization, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work proactively under minimal supervision in a flexible work environment
  • A commitment to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain a culture of openness, trust, and transparency while ensuring a safe, secure, and protected environment for our customers

  • Experience with a security information and event management system preferred (SIEM) Logrhythm
  • Experience with Next Gen Firewall software such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, etc.
  • Experience with Tanium, Crowdstrike or similar tools, especially in a Linux environment
  • Experience with Data Loss Prevention tools
  • Experience with SELinux
  • Experience with cgroups and containers
  • Experience VMware, OpenStack, or other hypervisors
  • Experience with Ceph, NFS, Samba or other storage protocols
