Salary & Benefits:                     Salary is $40,939.44. Compensation package is comprised of many college paid benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, leave time, and tuition waivers for Santa Fe College and the University of Florida.

The Lead Plumber inspects, maintains, repairs, and installs all aspects of plumbing systems and must adhere to established college safety guidelines and health and safety codes. While this position is not supervisory in nature, it is the lead and will give direction in all plumbing projects and repairs.  This position also works with other trade employees to ensure that all specifications are met and to ensure efficient and successful completion of each project or work order.   

 

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Serves as lead on all plumbing-related duties and assignments including inspecting, maintaining, servicing, and repairing all plumbing systems such as valves, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, and all associated piping to ensure a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Perform and lead a variety of skilled plumbing tasks including the testing and repair of backflows, troubleshooting malfunctions, as well as developing a plan of action to resolve problems.
  • Serves as the lead on plumbing projects and repairs in accordance with Florida plumbing codes and ADA requirements related to plumbing including the procurement of parts and materials, coordination with other trades, consultation with outside vendors, and successful completion.
  • Ensure roof and floor drains are cleared of debris and fully operational at all times.
  • Operate and oversee the use, care, and operation of a variety of maintenance-related hand tools and power equipment including, but not limited to, pipe threading and soldering equipment, as well as a variety of drain cleaning equipment.
  • Practice proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable industry standards and specifications.
  • Create work orders, order and obtain all materials to service work orders, and schedule work accordingly to accomplish work order tasks.
  • Survey the plumbing infrastructure around campuses and document complete plumbing utilities system.
  • Review construction and renovation plans and make recommendations as needed.
  • Promote and adhere to all recognized safety practices and standards.
  • Comply with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Assist other trades as needed.
  • Participation in the rotation for on call and call back is on a voluntary basis, with additional compensation, and may be required, as outlined in the On call/Callback department policy.*
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:   High school diploma or equivalent. Certification from a recognized Plumbing vocational or trade school or a journeyman certificate of competency or higher and two years of related commercial work experience or six years of related work experience. Backflow preventer certification for repair & Backflow preventer certification for testing. Demonstrated knowledge of Florida plumbing codes and ADA requirements related to plumbing.  Applicants must have the ability to work in confined or tight spaces, along with the ability to work on aerial lifts and elevated work platforms of up to 65 feet, as well as knowledge of regulatory codes and requirements

 

Additional Requirements: Applicants must have a valid Florida Class E Operator (driver’s) license and be authorized to drive for the college. A criminal background check will be conducted.

 

Preferred:  Demonstrated knowledge of booster pumps and fire sprinkler systems.
