Part-Time Instructor in Public Health: Biostatistics, Summer Session II 2022 Position:

Part-Time Instructor in Public Health

Type:

Part-time Faculty

Department/Program:

Public Health

The Agnes Scott College Department of Public Health is seeking a part-time instructor to teach Biostatistics (PH 210) during our online Summer Session II (July 5-Aug 4).

The successful applicant will have a minimum of a master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) and preferably have a Ph.D. or be ABD in a Ph.D. program. Candidates will also be asked to provide evidence of excellence in teaching, ideally at the undergraduate level.

This is a 4-credit introductory biostatistics course for undergraduate students. The course teaches basic statistical concepts as they apply to public health. The aim of the course is to prepare students for subsequent courses with quantitative components, such as epidemiology. Students learn to use statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Excel, OpenEpi, R) to calculate descriptive and inferential statistics (t-tests, odds ratios and relative risk, correlations, and simple and multiple regressions) and interpret the results in context. Class activities and assignments include interpreting statistics from peer-reviewed articles, conducting basic analyses with hypothetical or public health surveillance data, and producing a written or visual interpretation of their statistical results. A strong candidate will be able to explain statistical concepts and how they apply to health-related topics, as well as to teach students how to use software to conduct statistical analyses and communicate findings visually, orally, and in writing.

The course is on-line and can be taught either synchronously or asynchronously.

To apply, send electronic copies of your cover letter, curriculum vita, graduate transcripts, diversity statement, and contact information for three references to Dr. Amy Patterson, Chair of Public Health ( apatterson@agnesscott.edu ). Applications will be accepted until position is filled. We plan to begin interviewing candidates by mid-April. Official graduate transcripts will be required before hiring. Please note that it is college policy to only hire candidates who are legally authorized to work in the United States. For the safety of the Agnes Scott community, there is also an expectation that faculty comply with our vaccination and testing policies.
