The School of Engineering (SoE) Innovation Management and Design Engineering Group (IMDE) at Brown University invites applications for Adjunct faculty positions with potential start dates over the next 24 months. Our focus is on individuals with professional and/or academic experience in the areas of technology leadership, innovation management, entrepreneurship, and/or design engineering. Strong candidates will have expertise across two or more of these areas.

The primary academic areas represented by IMDE are:

  • Master of Science in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship (PRIME). PRIME has experienced rapid growth in the past three years, becoming the highest enrolling masters in SoE and one of the largest master programs on campus.
  • Master of Science and Technology Leadership (MTL). Run jointly by Brown’s SoE and the School of Professional Studies, MTL has also seen significant enrollment growth.
  • Master of Arts in Design Engineering (MADE). Offered in partnership with the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), with the first class graduating in May 2022.
  • SoE is establishing a new design engineering track for undergraduate students.
  • SoE offers numerous innovation management/entrepreneurship courses to undergraduate students.

IMDE also works closely with the Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, which has created a strong entrepreneurial ecosystem across the university since its founding in 2016.

A primary goal in all these initiatives is to fuse technological innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership skills with design to build translational capacity to help solve global challenges, with a focus on topical areas highlighted in Brown’s Strategic Plan.

To maintain this rapid growth and emerging impact trajectory, we seek to engage Adjunct faculty with both an educational and professional background relevant to the IMDE group. For additional information please refer to: Brown University, Brown School of Engineering, IMDE group, Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, MADE program, MTL program, PRIME program, Breakthrough Lab, PRIME@Work. Details on current IMDE courses can be found on these websites or by searching the full category of SoE courses at Courses @ Brown using an ENGN subject designation. Courses related to business, innovation or technology evaluation found via this search are good exemplars of the current IMDE course portfolio.

Adjuncts are appointed based on their professional and/or academic experience, on their ability to serve the projected academic needs of the hiring group, and on their teaching effectiveness. Appointments are by course and compensation is provided per course on a work-for-hire basis.

Adjuncts are expected to maintain their current industry practice activities while serving as adjuncts. Applicants must hold graduate degrees in either engineering, design, business, finance, economics, computer science, or other STEM disciplines (PhD preferred).
