Job Summary:
The Graduate Admissions Coordinator is the primary point of contact for prospective graduate students at Furman and plays an integral role in assisting prospective students in the graduate programs admissions process. This person works as a member of the graduate studies office to advance university goals in graduate student enrollment, retention, and revenue generation. In addition to carrying out daily operations of the office, and developing programs and projects as assigned, the role of an Admissions Counselor often includes group and individual presentations, individual counseling with prospective students, hosting information sessions, travel, as well as coordinating the evaluation and selection of applicants with graduate program directors.

This person will carry out daily operations of the Office of Graduate Studies and have responsibility for recruiting graduate students for the university's graduate programs which include MA in Strategic Design, MA in Teaching, MA in Education, Educational Specialist, MS in Chemistry, and MS in Community Engaged Medicine. This is a full-time, on-campus position, with potential for some evening and weekend work and some travel for recruitment opportunities.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

Recruitment (virtual and in-person):
  • Serves as the first point of contact for prospective students. Maintains strong ties with these students throughout the duration of the admissions cycle. Uses connections with faculty, staff, and other campus partners to help promote programs and opportunities available to Furman students.
  • Applies traditional approaches and envisions creative strategies for recruitment of graduate students, execute such strategies, and evaluate their effectiveness (including travel to graduate school fairs or regional universities, developing relationships with regional organizations, meeting with prospective graduate students individually and in groups, hosting sessions, etc.).
  • Hosts virtual recruiting events such as virtual information sessions, graduate school fairs, individual meetings with students, etc. when not able to physically connect with prospective students in-person.
  • Develops healthy working relationships with all members of the admissions team and graduate studies office. This individual will do as much as possible to ensure a positive working environment and be willing to aid with projects and tasks as necessary.

Audience Segmentation and Outreach:
  • Implement graduate student recruitment strategies by segmenting audiences and messaging directly to prospective student publics.
  • Collaborates with program directors to identify unique outreach opportunities based on prospective student demographics and academic content
  • Surveys and utilizes potential connections to local, regional, and national professional and academic organizations for audience development.
  • Advises and provides feedback to the marketing team on recruitment needs including social media outreach efforts.

Customer Service:
  • Speaks knowledgeably about and engages prospective students and community partners on each independent graduate program.
  • Maintain contact with applicants-in-process regarding all programs providing excellent customer service.
  • Maintain detailed admissions records and utilizes admissions enterprise systems in coordination with university admissions efforts.
  • Coordinates admissions decisions and notifications in a timely fashion.

Relationship Management:
  • Develops strong working relationships with liaisons at other institutions, career centers, regional businesses, representatives of community-based organizations, independent educational consultants, Furman alumni and other external constituencies.
  • Collaborates with relevant offices on campus (university communications, admissions, financial aid, enrollment services, information technology services, Slate team) as needed.
  • Maintains excellent communication with graduate program directors and associate directors.
