Overview
University Communications is responsible for the University’s integrated communications and marketing strategies, web and creative services, and digital marketing to promote the University brand. The department develops communications strategies to diverse audiences with the goal of supporting the University’s brand, enrollment, and fundraising. Reporting to the Associate Vice President for University Communications, the Director of Communications is the first point of contact for all media relations. The director works with the AVP of University Communication to successfully execute an aggressive, proactive media strategy designed to elevate the profile of the univ The director works with the AVP of University Communications to successfully execute an aggressive, proactive media strategy. The director also leads and manages university-wide internal communications including announcements of major initiatives, and emergency communications.


Responsibilities
Serves as the first point of contact for media requests; drafts and distributes press releases and statements; assists in staffing media appearances and interviews; manages all media lists and is responsible for keeping the lists up to date. Logs all media inquiries; compiles news clips; provides reporting on PR efforts. Represents University Communications in the organization of major campus events; develops and implements communications plans to ensure presentations, programs, and events support the mission, strategic goals, and objectives of the University. Assists communications colleagues around the University to develop strategy and internal narratives and rollout plans.

Leads emergency communications procedures in coordination with the campus Emergency Management leaders. Strategically coordinates and integrates communications across units to create consistent, effective messaging and integrating and aligning with University branding and communications direction. Builds credible relationships with leaders of the operating units to coordinate messaging and timelines for University-wide and/or related University initiatives. Writes high-level narratives of University initiatives and web copy; edits communications and web content to ensure accuracy and clarity. Prepares executive communications, including PowerPoint presentations and speeches/talking points.


Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree. At least five years (5) of experience required in public relations, media relations, journalism, or a related field. Higher education or Church experience is highly desirable.

● Exceptional knowledge of current digital and traditional communications tools and tactics, and trends;
● Substantial experience using web content management systems (CMS);
● Proficiency in web design, ability to direct graphic design;
● Knowledge of SEO, web design principles and trends, and accessibility standards;
● Internet operations and functionality;
● Experience using Google Workspace applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Acrobat Pro;
● Understanding of current web-related regulations, laws, and trends;

● Ability to write and edit copy, or manage copywriting.
● Distills complex information for audiences including but not limited to internal decision makers, the Board of Directors, the University community and the public.
● Strategic, critical thinking to understand business needs and audience desires to produce compelling communications
● Approachable, collaborative, results-oriented, problem-solver who can both provide and take direction well
● Strong communication skills, both visual, written and verbal
● Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills
● Must be able to juggle several projects at one time
● Thrives in a creative, collaborative environment
● Ability to organize/lead projects requiring integration of efforts across colleagues, university entities and external vendors/partners.
