Overview
University Communications is responsible for the strategic, integrated management of Catholic University’s brand. The communications department manages the University’s brand through crisis communications, media and public relations, communication of institutional campaigns and initiatives, internal communications, University news reporting, special events, and institutional publications (magazine, annual report). The Multimedia Writer will use a mix of creativity, technical knowledge, and writing ability to tell a story or express an idea using a variety of multimedia formats that can be read, listened to, or viewed in print or onscreen.


Responsibilities
  • Develop original content that conveys story lines, ideas, and information.
  • Write for a variety of formats including the University magazine, newsletters, podcasts, videos, social media, marketing campaigns, photo stories, and web features.
  • Works to combine both words and visual elements to tell stories and convey ideas.
  • Conduct extensive research on various topics, prepare outlines and rough drafts, check facts, appropriately source and cite resources, work with editors and the design team to revise and rewrite sections.
  • Provide copy editing support for the Division of University Communications.
  • Network with colleagues across campus to gather story ideas from schools and departments and stay up-to-date on University events and initiatives.
  • Work in a deadline-driven environment in which priorities can change without notice.


Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in communications, creative writing, multimedia journalism, English, marketing, graphic design, web design, studio art, digital design, among others, and at least 1-2 years experience, or experience from an internship or a well-developed portfolio. Must demonstrate strong creativity, writing, research, editing, and interview skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs. Must have working knowledge of photo editing, design, and video editing software, such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and InDesign. SEO experience is a plus. Bilingual Spanish-English is a plus.

Experience writing for print, web, and digital platforms are desirable. It is preferable if the writer has copyediting experience.

Must be available to work extended and weekend hours.
