Job Summary:

The Gasch Lab within the UW-Madison Center for Genomic Science Innovation (CGSI) and the Department of Medical Genetics seeks an ambitious and highly motivated research specialist to support research activities. The lab uses functional and comparative genomics, genetics, bioinformatics, and systems biology to understand how eukaryotic cells sense and respond to environmental stress and to elucidate genotype/phenotype/environment relationships, using budding yeast as a model. The successful candidate will participate in research support on specific projects, including but not limited to yeast strain construction, cloning, yeast tetrad dissection, strain phenotyping, project-specific assays, and more. The candidate will also participate in general lab maintenance as required. This is an outstanding opportunity for researchers interested in bolstering existing skills in molecular biology. The lab is housed within the CGSI, which serves as a vibrant and collegial environment for inclusive and collaborative science. Responsibilities:

Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.
  • 45% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 35% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 10% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 10% Performs literature reviews and writes reports

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
BA/BS in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or related area

Qualifications:

Well qualified candidates will have the required qualifications:
- One year of previous lab experience.
- Experience in basic molecular biology techniques.

Well qualified candidates will have the preferred qualifications:
- One to three years of full-time lab experience.
- Previous experience with yeast or bacteria, PCR, cloning, and molecular biology
- Effective and flexible communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team setting to establish and maintain effective working relationship.
- Good conflict resolution skills.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to plan, establish priorities and organize varied and complex tasks.
