Job Summary:

The position will provide a full range of electrical engineering duties to support a large medium voltage electrical distribution system on campus. The position will assess the needs and performance of systems and develop strategic plans that will drive critical projects to ensure a safe, reliable, and energy-efficient reliable electrical distribution network, all while working closely with contractors, consultants, UW departments, outside agencies, and utility providers. Providing engineering services, technical support, estimates, guidance, solutions, and training will support the campus facilities' electrical distribution and building systems. Researching new technologies and ideas for sustainable adaptable solutions will improve the performance of buildings and operational procedures.

Responsibilities:

Provides professional, licensed, and credentialed engineering expertise in designing, modifying and constructing Institution facilities, including buildings and physical plant infrastructure to ensure the Institution is meeting regulatory and professional engineering standards.
  • 20% Assesses, designs, modifies, and constructs institution facilities utilizing engineering techniques and best practices
  • 20% Monitors, interprets, communicates, and applies all established building codes, policies, and procedures
  • 20% Liaises facility construction plans with internal and external stakeholders and vendors, and provides engineering guidance and recommendations to align with strategic facility planning
  • 20% Serves as a professional, licensed, and credentialed subject matter expert to unit leadership regarding engineering technology, design, methodology, and execution for varying facilities projects
  • 10% Provides a full range of electrical utility engineering duties in support of the operational capabilities of the campus electrical distribution system
  • 10% Develops and implements long and short term strategic plans, including engineering services, technical support, project development, estimates, and training to support the campus electrical distribution system

Education:

Required
Fulfills all requirements as a Professional Engineer as outlined by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services: https://dsps.wi.gov/Pages/Professions/LandscapeArchitect/Default.aspx

Qualifications:

At least 4 years of experience in electrical engineering related to utility design, distribution, and operational knowledge of electrical distribution systems from source to the facility electric service.

The ideal breadth of experience will include a variety of building occupancy types, familiarity with power quality analysis, backup and emergency power supply, commercial electric service design, lightning protection, arc flash analysis, grounding, abnormal operating condition assessment and remediation, system protection and electric service restoration from source to service.

License/Certification:
