The salary range for this position is $53,000 – $55,000 at Instructor level. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, training, and qualifications. This is a 9-month faculty position with a required summer administrative load that is separately compensated.

Position Summary

The Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking applicants for a full time Clinical Field Faculty position with a focus on teaching and administration in the area of field education. This is a 9-month faculty position with a required summer administrative load that is separately compensated, and the position will begin immediately for the 2022-2023 academic year. Applicants with expertise in Social Work and related Field Education and experience in social work practice are encouraged to apply.

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have primary assignment to the MSW Foundation Year program in the area of field education. Teaching will consist of approximately 18 semester credits per academic year. Instruction will include MSW Foundation Year field education and other practice-focused courses, depending on departmental need and candidate qualifications. Teaching may include online, face-to-face, and hybrid instruction; face-to-face instruction may include day, evening, and weekend as needed.

This position teaches at least one or more sections of the Field Experience sequence at the MSW -Foundation level. As the instructor for the Field Experience course, this position serves as the Faculty Field Liaison ( FFL ) between the student, the university, and the community agencies, which includes site visits and on-going monitoring. This position will provide consultation and mediation as needed, to facilitate communication and conflict resolution between students and agency field supervisors.

This position will serve as Lead Faculty for MSW Foundation Year Field Experience courses. As the course lead, this position is responsible to update and modify curriculum and course materials for both online and in-person courses. The Clinical Field Faculty will also provide consultation and support to all the Faculty Field Liaisons who teach the Field Experience course and will communicate challenging student or field situations to the Assistant Director as needed.

Non-Teaching Responsibilities
This position will have a reduced teaching load of 12 semester credits of reassigned time per academic year, in addition to either half time or full-time work in the summer months (to be determined based on department need and candidate availability), to focus on the following:
  • Field Administration. This position will assist with the administration of the field education program. Under the supervision and direction of the Director of Field Education, the candidate will be responsible for assisting with placement of students into appropriate field sites, providing field instruction and supervision to assigned students; the development, coordination, and delivery of field related events such as student orientations and agency orientation; and other duties as assigned.
  • Advising. In addition, under reassigned time, the successful candidate will advise a designated load of MSW students. Responsibilities include providing professional guidance, acting as a resource in the student support process, and acting as a professional mentor.
  • Service. The successful candidate will perform service including work on Departmental committees essential for field related consultation as assigned by the Chair. Specifically, the Clinical Field Faculty are responsible for leadership in ensuring that essential field related learning is infused in classroom learning across the curriculum. Candidates are encouraged to maintain an active service involvement in their professional communities relevant to the role of Clinical Field Faculty as a way of remaining academically qualified.
Required Qualifications
  • Master of Social Work ( MSW ) degree from a Council on Social Work Education ( CSWE )-accredited institution
  • Five (5) years relevant post- MSW experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years post- MSW practice experience
  • Social work education experience (specifically teaching field education courses) or supervising students enrolled in a field education course
  • 3+ years of supervisor experience or student internship supervision (Field Instructor, Field Liaison, etc.)
  • Previous teaching or practice experience serving first generation college students and/or historically marginalized populations
  • An understanding of the 9 core social work competencies at the micro/mezzo/macro levels with a lens toward addressing racial inequity in all aspects of the work
  • Knowledge of local area social service agencies
  • Earned doctorate degree in social work or other related discipline
  • Current State of Colorado Social Work Licensure
  • Demonstrated experience in mediation or conflict resolution
  • Previous teaching in an online or distributed learning context
  • Commitment to ongoing trainings in online and distributed learning
