Position Summary

This hybrid position, with on-site time required as needed, is the senior business leader for the university’s division dedicated to expanding access and driving new revenues and high margin through academic programs and other education-based activities for new audiences, especially working adult professionals and executives, and pre-college learners.  A primary focus for this activity will be online development and expansion of programs, offerings, and delivery-platform and other B2B partnerships. 

With an entrepreneurial business-driving orientation, develops and leads the execution of a multi-year strategy and plan for a comprehensive portfolio of non-degree and degree offerings that scales rapidly and contributes to the university’s vibrancy, audience reach and access, and financial sustainability.   

Brings a learner-first, market-responsive orientation and proven online higher education experience to the design of academic/educational portfolio of offerings and pathways, unit structure and operations, engagement and leveraging of partners, use of data and analytics to drive decisions and actions, and delivery of industry-leading online and hybrid formats and related student support and services.   

This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Business Development.

Key responsibilities and areas of leadership oversight:

  • Drive Strategic Business Planning and Revenue Goals: Accountable for designing a comprehensive data-informed and market-responsive business strategy that aligns and integrates all offerings and delivery platforms and formats; financial modeling and forecasting including setting and delivering revenue and growth milestones and targets; establishing a budget that supports the infrastructure of continuing education programs; leading a tailored, multi-functional academic and operational team to do so.

 

  • Lead Portfolio Management: Designs a product portfolio management approach to maximize reach, access, and service to audience populations, and leverage the assets and differentiating aspects of The New School’s offerings, while minimizing cannibalization within the university’s various lines of educational programming across the institution.

 

  • Direct Academic Content and Integration: Builds alliances and synergies coordination across the university’s spectrum of academic areas and administrators.  Ensures highest-quality and leading-edge offering and service through a comprehensive framework of academic pathways and support that benefits a wide range of learners and nurtures/sustains their participation in our university ecosystem over time.

 

  • Strategize and Build Primary Partnership Portfolio: Authors and ensures a high-level strategy for engagement with technology platforms and educational and other entities to maximize access to The New School’s offerings and brands across audience types, geographies and price points. 

 

  • Deliver Operational Service and Excellence: Establishes an operation that explicitly serves the distinctive needs of the range of online and continuing education students and suite of programs and sets the highest standards of support and administration.

  • Business driver with proven success building an online continuing education enterprise at scale and with a growth mindset and cultural orientation; fast-paced, nimble, agile, responsive, and progress-insistent.

 

  • Expert at engendering shared responsibility, engagement, and leadership contribution across a wide-reaching matrixed organization to ensure both unit and enterprise-wide success.

 

  • Respects, appreciates, and leverages The New School’s brands, distinguishing strengths of design preeminence, and progressive social justice orientation to create an industry leading academic offering.

Minimum Qualifications: 

MBA or comparable related experience a must.  15 + years of demonstrated experience in higher education, education technology and/or corporate education leading a multi-faceted, revenue generating unit. Entrepreneurial experience or acumen required.  

Strong communication and consultative selling skills to drive change across organizations and through internal and external partnerships and collaboration.  Ability to operationalize strategy, lead financial planning, manage budgets and complex initiatives, and influence others outside of lines of direct reporting.

Ability to persuasively engage at the C-Suite, Board and Leadership levels of organizations to produce business results.
