Technician I, II, III - Student Computing

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Summary
Diagnoses and repairs workstations for end users using network topologies and protocols. Maintains 200+ computers and ancillary equipment such as workstations, laptops, printers, and scanners. Performs regular hardware maintenance. Provides computer hardware and software expertise to over 200 academic and administrative end users. Researches and evaluates computer hardware, and software applications. Determines and recommends solutions. Works with a provides excellent customer service. Analyzes and trouble-shoots problems.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree in Information Systems or related field and one year of experience directly related to the Summary of Duties OR any combination of education and experience totaling three years, two years of which must be directly related to the Summary of Duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Key Roles and Responsibilities
25% Installs, configures and tests PC hardware, software and peripheral devices and applications,
operating systems, and network connections.
25% Maintains, diagnoses repairs new and user computers and peripheral devices. Performs regular
hardware maintenance.
10% Evaluates new and existing products to make recommendations for improved performance and
upgrades.
10% Coordinates warrantied repairs and maintains records of software installations.
10% Remains current on computer technology and advancements in hardware and software.
10% Maintains inventory of records of PC hardware, maintenance schedules and repair work.
10% Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge
Knowledge of various computer applications such as Microsoft Office, internet browsers,
email systems, anti-virus Software, and other general applications.
Knowledge working in customer service, team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Knowledge with iOS, Android, Windows, and any other operating systems on tablets and
smart phones.
Knowledge of imaging software such as WDS or SCCM.
Knowledge of TCP/IP and application network protocols, firewall management, operating
system configuration.
Knowledge of Outlook, Mac OSX, and Windows OS.
Knowledge of directory-based authentication (Active Directory).
Knowledge of installing, troubleshooting, and repairing hardware and software problems
and researching technical issues on MAC OSX and/or Windows OS.
Knowledge of installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting peripheral devices such as
printers (local and network), scanners.
Knowledge of procedures and software for backing up and restoring data.

Preferred Qualifications:
This is a Career Ladder position and will be placed at one of the following levels depending on qualifications:

Technician I - Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree in information technology or related field, plus one (1) year of experience which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position; OR any combination of higher education and work experience totaling three (3) years, two of which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position. Also required to have a current A+, CNA, CNE, MCP, MCSE, CCNAor other industry recognized certification applicable to the essential functions. May obtain this certification within the first 6 months of employment.

Technician II - Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree in information technology or related field, plus two(2) years of experience which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position; OR any combination of higher education and work experience totaling four (4) years, 2 of which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position. Also required to have a current A+, CNA, CNE, MCP, MCSE, CCNA or other industry recognized certification applicable to the essential functions.

Technician III - Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree in information technology or related field, plus three (3) years of experience which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position; OR any combination of higher education and work experience totaling five (5) years, 4 of which must be directly related to the essential functions/duties of the position.

Current A+, CNA, CNE, MCP, MCSE, CCNA or other industry recognized certification applicable to the essential functions required.

Licenses or Certifications
Current A+, CNA, CNE, MCP, MCSE, CCNA or other industry recognized certification applicable to the essential functions required.

Physical Requirements:
Consistent use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Requires continual hearing, seeing, and talking. Must be able to lift greater than 25 lbs.

Pay Range: $38,323 - $59,119
