Job Description
The Assistant Director of Finance serves as a key member of the advancement division’s business operations team and reports to the Director of Finance and Analysis. The purpose of this position is to support the budget development process, monitor fiscal resources, and provide guidance regarding contracting with product and service providers, compliance with laws, regulations, and university policies, including Payment Card Industry (PCI) and conflicts of interest.
Required Qualifications
This position requires strong organizational and administrative skills combined with an interest in a highly complex, yet collaborative work environment.
The ability to conduct, analyze and present research findings.
Experience preparing complex financial and budget reports.
Bachelor’s degree in finance or administration, or a related field with significant work experience.
Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with a working style that is collegial and collaborative.
Experience independently gathering data, conducting analyses, and concisely presenting and explaining information with the highest degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience with preparing user documentation and conducting training.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate business processes and researches best practices to identify areas of internal control risk and make recommendations to mitigate risks.
Knowledge of university budgeting and university procurement processes, including contracting for goods and services
Knowledge of PCI DSS requirements, Virginia Conflict of Interest Rules and Regulations.
Demonstrate strong analytical abilities.
Ability to follow detailed processes for compliance with standards and adherence to established procedures.
Responsible level of experience in higher education business or related field involving business operations and/or budget and financial analyses.
Experience drafting, reviewing, and recommending policies and procedures, particularly as they pertain to contract management
Knowledge of MicroStrategy financial reporting software and/or Microsoft SharePoint work team collaboration software or equivalents
