Job Description

The School of Visual Arts seeks applications for a one-year, non-renewable instructor in the Graphic Design Program with the capability of teaching a 3/3 course load of core Graphic Design courses (including Typography) and elective courses.

Required Qualifications

Terminal professional degree (M.F.A. or equivalent).

Proven ability to teach Graphic Design courses and/or significant professional experience.

A record of excellence in one or more of the following areas: typography; motion graphics; interaction design; illustration; and graphic design.

Demonstrated success in working with and promoting diversity and inclusion within an academic and/or professional environment.

A broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art and design practice and theory relating to Graphic Design.

The following items must be included in the application:
  • Cover letter addressing candidate’s proven experience and potential capacity to fulfill duties and responsibilities and required qualifications as listed above
  • Current CV
  • Teaching statement and evidence of teaching or instructional excellence in Graphic Design (may also address experiences with diversity, equity, and inclusion).
  • Portfolio including 10-20 professional pieces.
  • Optional: Student portfolio including 10-20 pieces
  • A list of three professional references with the preferred method of contact

About SOVA

The School of Visual Arts is comprised of 24 full-time faculty members with approximately 250 undergraduate students, 25 master’s students, and one doctoral student. The programs within the school include Art History, Studio Art, Creative Technologies, and Graphic Design.
