N/A Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Stockroom and Laboratory Manager serves a critical role in assisting every member of the faculty of the Department of Chemistry and Fermentation Sciences with their responsibilities. Since undergraduate research is an integral part of our student's education and our teaching mission, duties also include supporting undergraduate research courses/programs and mentoring student workers in the stockroom.

This position also includes half-time teaching in the fall and spring semesters combined with providing essential support for faculty, students, and the instructional mission of the chemistry department.
  • In consultation with the Director of Stockroom Operations, Resources, and Personnel & Chemical Hygiene Officer, the Stockroom Manager assist faculty and students in the assessment of chemical safety and chemical hazards and in following chemical safety protocols.
  • Collect, inventory, and handle hazardous waste generated in teaching and research labs according to all applicable EPA regulations.
  • Consult with lead faculty or lab coordinators about planned experiments before each semester in which the actual instruction will take place.
  • Maintain the stockroom in an orderly and organized fashion. Assess new chemicals prior to use.
  • Ensure that the condition of chemicals is closely monitored and all chemical safety protocols are closely followed.
  • Follow safety procedures at all times while in the stockroom and handling chemicals.
  • Coordinate, in conjunction with the Director of Stockroom Operations, Resources, and Personnel & Chemical Hygiene Officer, the schedule and duties of stockroom student workers and Stockroom Technicians.
  • Assist faculty with their research programs by providing appropriately labeled secondary containers, waste bottles, and basic materials, and assistance is critical for every faculty member engaged in one-on-one teaching of undergraduates to do research.
  • Must have advanced technical skills and know how to work with database programs.
  • Responsible for writing student breakage reports at the end of each semester and summer session by the last day of final exams.
  • Teach two laboratories in the fall and two in the spring semesters.
Suggested Salary Range $50,000-$58,000 Physical Demands of Position
