Basic Qualifications

Two or more years' experience in an academic environment. College background or work experience in social sciences. Computer skills required, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and conducting online scholarly research.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor's degree, preferably in a social science discipline. Master's degree preferred. Candidate must be well organized, self-motivated, and detail oriented, with excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, set priorities, and handle a wide range of tasks simultaneously and handle shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment. Must be flexible and willing to take on new assignments. Strong quantitative and qualitative analytic skills, command of and/or experience in statistical analysis and use of large datasets, and knowledge of R Studio, Github, Latex, and other tools. Must be able to effectively search databases and online journal archives. Experience working both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively; adept at multi-tasking, problem solving, and decision making. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Harvard University financial systems and Oracle financial software preferred and comfort with learning new software applications required. Prior work experience in an academic research setting a plus.

Position Description

Maintains course and faculty Web pages. Assists with preparation of course and lecture materials. Assists with research and preparation, editing, and submission of manuscripts for publication. Locates articles, checks bibliographic references, creates graphs and charts, and orders course packets. Plans and organizes seminar series, special events, and occasional academic conferences. Makes travel arrangements. Drafts and edits correspondence, articles, manuscripts, letters of recommendation, course materials, and reports. Performs general office duties. Executes special projects. Processes financial payments and reimbursements using Harvard's online financial systems (Concur, PCard, Corporate Card, Buy2Pay etc.) Manages calendar for two faculty members. Responds to internal and external requests for information. Performs other duties as required. Please note: this is a half-time position.
