Bowdoin College is located in Brunswick Maine with a student population of almost 2000. We make everything from scratch and consistently rated in the top 10 for college dining! We have our own butcher shop, bakeshop and organic garden that all supply food to our 2 dining halls and 3 retail locations. Under supervision of the Head Chef, prepare daily menu items in a short-order counter service restaurant environment. In conjunction with the Head Chef provide leadership and direction for other staff, and student employees, in daily kitchen operations at Smith Union. Model a professional demeanor and appropriate interpersonal communications at all times throughout the shifts with all staff, students, and customers.
  • This position offers a $500 sign-on bonus ($250 on first paycheck and $250 after 90 days).
Education/Skills Requirements
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Culinary Degree with accompanying experience or 3 years progressive cooking experience required. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team oriented environment is required. Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents
A minimum of three years experience in kitchen production required. Demonstrated understanding of basic cooking techniques and their application in quick-service and/or institutional settings. A valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet the eligibility requirements of the College’s current Motor Vehicle Use Policy. Serve Safe Certification. Standard Work Days and Hours
Primarily midday shifts but may include occasional daytime or evening shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays and during weather emergencies. Required to work during major college events and weekends.
