Announcement is hereby made for a 10-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment for the fall 2022 semester on the Ammerman Campus in Selden. Suffolk County Community College is an open admissions institution committed to serving a diverse student population in a variety of degree and career programs. 

 

This is a Unit III position covered under the Faculty Association of Suffolk County Community College collective bargaining agreement with the College.

 

Job Description

Applicants for this position are required to teach college-level Criminal Justice courses. As well, this position includes:

  • Designing and developing new courses that are either delivered in a face-to-face or online modality.
  • Contributions to grant efforts in the development, submission and delivery of grants.
  • Active in developing and expanding industry partnerships and community outreach.
  • Participation in attending local and national conferences in the field.
  • Ability to work with high school students/teachers and coordinate high school outreach efforts.

Duties will include:

  • Instruction of assigned courses in accordance with the description published in the College catalog and the approved course outline;  
  • Active participation in departmental, campus and college committees/meetings;
  • Academic advisement of students;
  • Curriculum review, assessment and development.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • A master's degree in criminal justice from an accredited institution is required.
  • Must possess willingness to mentor students and provide career guidance for the students in the A.S. program in Criminal Justice.
  • Must incorporate an appreciation of diverse identities, backgrounds, cultures and perspectives into courses. 
  • Must engage in assessment of college-wide Criminal Justice learning outcomes and demonstrate the use of the results of these assessments in courses.
  • The ability to teach all levels and modalities of Criminal Justice courses, inclusive, but not limited to: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Policing, Substantive Criminal Law, Corrections, Evidence and Procedural Law.

 

Preferred:

  • A Ph.D. in criminal justice or a J.D.
  • Direct experience in law enforcement. 
  • College-level or community college teaching experience.
  • Experience using a learning management system.
  • Demonstration of scholarly work in the discipline or experience working in the field.
