Job Description Summary

Responsible for assisting in planning and architectural design, with some project associated construction administration duties to transform the physical facilities of the College campus. General duties include in-depth review of architectural, engineering and other non-engineering consultants plans and specifications for assessment of completion and constructability, and to serve as College liaison with architects, engineers, consultants, and contractors in coordination of their respective work. The Planning & Architecture Manager will assist various campus user groups in space planning, short-term and long-term campus master-planning, development of new campus building and site standards with development of standards documentation, and general construction administration management including site observations for correctness and quality of work, and serve as the department’s AutoCAD / BIM Modeling resource. The Planning & Architecture Manager will also be responsible for managing, planning, and programming tasks associated with the development of Capital Improvement Projects Educational Specifications, along with monitoring of various ongoing campus Capital Improvement Projects planning, architectural design, general construction activities, review of contract documents, project closeouts, and RFP development for professional and construction services.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural engineering, or other related design profession with a minimum of two years onsite construction experience and two years of full-time professional level experience in programming and architectural design projects related to higher education projects costing more than 1 million dollars. Should have supervisorial experience of an A/E Team during project programming and development of construction documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Ability to interpret, review and comment on architectural and engineering plans and specifications.
  2. Sufficient technical background to permit understanding in appropriate architectural and construction terminology.
  3. Proficient in current AutoCAD applications.
  4. Experience with BIM Modeling Software (Revit, etc.)
  5. Knowledge of applicable building codes, construction principles and practices, and design practices.
  6. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Interfaces with architects, engineers, contractors, furniture designers, facilities shop personnel and campus user groups for the planning, coordination and execution of Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Represents the College at assigned planning and design meetings.
  • Assist with the implementation, management and coordination for the preparation of Educational Specifications for agency submissions ( DGS, DBM, MHEC, MACC, etc.).
  • Participates in College Capital Improvement Projects by co-chairing design meetings, suggesting design ideas, and spearheading creative design solutions including Value Engineering Options.
  • Performs and completes minor campus space designs using AutoCAD or BIM Modeling.
  • Assists the College in reviewing architectural and engineering drawings and specifications, shop drawings, product data and samples for compliance with College Standards and Constructability.
  • Conducts field surveys to verify and document existing room dimensions for HEGIS Space Inventory Control and Campus Efficiency Reports.
  • Updates the Capital Improvement Project Master Schedule, the facilities building book, and facilities parking book as needed.
  • Maintains up-to-date status and monitoring of each assigned campus planning and design project including construction project efforts through completion of construction.
  • Serve on the screening committee for the selection of architectural and engineering firms, construction management firms, and general contractors.
  • Interfaces with the Director of Planning, Design, and Construction and the Executive Director of Facilities in performing various assigned duties.
  • Coordinates temporary personnel relocations required to support capital projects.
  • Perform contract closeout for all projects.
  • Assists in the development of punch lists and warranty lists, and provides follow-up back-check reviews.
  • Assists in maintaining documents for projects in an orderly manner including drawings, specifications, project correspondence, change orders, construction change authorization, architects’ supplemental instructions, reports of site conferences, supplementary drawings, color schedules, requests for payment, and names and addresses of contractors, sub-contractors and principal material suppliers.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Planning, Design and Construction and/or the Executive Director of Facilities.
Job Requirements

  1. Must be able to work Monday thru Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  3. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
  4. A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
