Summary

Seeking a highly motivated individual to be a part of a dynamic research team leading NIH-sponsored efforts to develop novel medications to treat Substance Use Disorders (SUDs). The selected candidate will learn to perform intravenous catheterization surgery in rats using sterile technique under general anesthesia, set up and run behavioral test sessions and analyze data. Duties also include but are not limited to: making sterile solutions, administering test medications, monitoring rodent health and care, treating minor illnesses not requiring veterinary services and maintaining experimental equipment). The position also requires the ability accurately record, update and maintain daily experimental data, make graphs, perform basic statistical analysis and maintain data backup copies.

Required Education and Experience

Ability to coordinate and manage multiple studies simultaneously, with low error rate; ability to communicate with coworkers and supervisor; ability to work effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Education and Experience

Highly preferred is a bachelor’s degree. Previous experience with lab animals and/or previous lab experience (as student or employee) is also desirable.
