Job Description

The University of Missouri (MU) School of Accountancy in the Trulaske College of Business invites applications for a tenured faculty position beginning in August 2023. This position is for the rank of either Associate or Full Professor. Our ideal candidate will have an established research reputation evidenced by an active and strong record of scholarly achievements. The appointee is expected to continue to pursue research and scholarship and serve as a mentor and advisor to doctoral students and early career faculty. All areas of accounting research will be considered, but the use of archival methods is preferred.

The School of Accountancy is strongly interested in recruiting an individual who can embrace and enhance the vision of a diverse, collegial, and productive academic environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct and collaborate on high quality research leading to publications in top-tier journals.
  • Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate (Masters and PhD) levels that match the appointee’s areas of expertise with the School of Accountancy’s areas of need.
  • Serve as an excellent faculty role model who inspires, encourages, and mentors colleagues and students.
  • Participate in conferences and workshops to maintain currency in research, teaching, and service.
  • Provide thought leadership and share insights through engagement with diverse groups including faculty, students, alumni, industry professionals, and other external stakeholders.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :
  • An earned doctorate in Accounting.
  • Assistant Professor with at least five years of experience and a tenurable research record.
Candidates will be evaluated on:
  • Strong publishing record of archival-based accounting research in top academic journals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to research mentorship.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A distinguished teaching record at an AACSB-accredited business school.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
  • Record of involvement in major professional organizations.

About the School of Accountancy at MU:

Students in the School of Accountancy acquire practical experience in the field of accounting, participate in vibrant student organizations, and access substantial financial aid, all in a degree program that is nationally recognized for excellence. The 2019 Public Accounting Report (PAR) ranks the School in the Top 13 nationally for Undergraduate and Graduate (Master’s) programs and in the Top 25 for Doctoral programs. When scaled by faculty size, the School is ranked in the Top 3 nationally for both Undergraduate and Master’s programs . High-quality students are admitted to the program at the start of the junior year. The entering class for fall 2021 has an average GPA of 3.7. The School of Accountancy has a record of excellent performance on CPA exams including high score winners for the AICPA Elijah Watt Sells Award for 2014-2022 and one of the highest first-time CPA exam pass rates in the nation. A recent (February 2021 Accounting Today) article on CPA exam success ranked Mizzou #2 of 521 accounting programs nationwide – and #1 of 251 large accounting programs nationally . The School’s Master’s degree job placement rates are between 95-98% each year; in addition, several PhD placements have been obtained at leading universities.

The School of Accountancy supports a strong, technologically enhanced curriculum including data analytics and integration of ERP through membership in SAP’s University Alliance. The School of Accountancy also offers certification in assurance, tax, and data analytics.

In addition to its Director, the School of Accountancy currently has 12 tenured or tenure-track faculty, all research active. The faculty enjoy a collegial and collaborative research environment with an active research workshop series and research support, including databases. The School of Accountancy has also been ranked in the Top 10 nationally in the past for Scholarly Research Index by Academic Analytics.

The School has strong and vibrant relationships with the accounting profession, including accounting firms, companies, and academic/professional associations. In addition to developing numerous named faculty positions, student scholarships, and opportunities for research/teaching collaboration, the School of Accountancy maintains active fundraising relationships with the accounting firms, industry, and alumni. The School of Accountancy was one of among nine schools nationally to be selected for hosting the KPMG Master of Accounting with Data & Analytics (MADA) for 2018-2021. This has been followed up with renewal in 2022 of access to MADA resources and scholarships funding.

About the Robert J. Trulaske Sr. College of Business

The Trulaske College of Business, founded in 1914, today enrolls more than 4,300 students. The college has four academic units – Accountancy, Finance, Management, and Marketing. The college offers an undergraduate degree in business administration, a full-time MBA degree and an execMBA for working professionals, a 150-hour program that confers both undergraduate and master’s degrees in accountancy, online graduate degrees in accountancy and finance, and PhD degrees in both accountancy and business administration.
