The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott, Arizona campus is hiring an Adjunct First-year Writing Instructor to join the Department of Humanities and Communication Team. Embry-Riddle's Prescott Campus is respected worldwide for cutting-edge instruction and training for tomorrow’s aviation, aerospace, security and intelligence leaders. Prescott is a mile-high city and its climate reflects seasonable weather excellent for flying. Daytime averages are 80°F in the summer and 45°F in the winter. At 5,000 ft. above sea level, it boasts a mild climate, clean air, pristine wilderness areas, and nearby national forests. The university is a small, private, residential university in the mountains of Arizona with approximately 3,500 students. Staff/faculty/student interaction is highly valued and is a central theme of our campus. It is located 100 miles north of Phoenix and 120 miles south of the Grand Canyon.

The Department of Humanities and Communication at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott campus, invites applications for a part-time teaching position to start August 29, 2022.

This position is not remote; all classes are taught on campus.

The successful candidate will teach first-year writing courses; as a part-time writing teacher, he or she may teach up to 6 courses per year (fall, spring, summer) as negotiated with the department chair. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

COM 122 is a first-year writing course for all students on campus. This course is taught face-to-face and focuses on teaching academic forms of writing and ways of conducting research. The instructor is responsible for facilitating the class; grading student documents and other assignments; teaching basic writing, revising, and editing processes; and working with the course monitor to develop the class and assess student work. The instructor is also responsible for maintaining his/her Canvas electronic course site.

Qualifications

• M.A. or Ph.D. in composition studies, rhetoric, writing or a closely related field in hand at the start of the appointment.

• Evidence of successful teaching.

• The ability to use classroom technology effectively in teaching and learning.
