Job Description

MU TITLE: Business Support Specialist I

LOCATION: Columbia MO

The University of Missouri (MU) Office of Extension and Engagement’s distinct land-grant mission is to improve lives, communities, and economies by producing relevant, reliable, and responsive educational strategies throughout Missouri. This position is responsible for supporting fiscal team functions for MU Extension programs in agriculture, health, and economic development throughout the state of Missouri. Flexible work arrangements with some remote work may be allowed after a period of in-person training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Provide transactional support as part of the fiscal operations team – including but not limited to the following:
    • Process invoices, payment requests, and purchase orders.
    • Reconcile accounts and prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
    • Monitor fund balances and related financial activity.
    • Review posted expenses for allowability within University policies and procedures;
    • Assist with consultant/business service agreements, gift card approvals and tracking.
  • Provide support to on and off campus faculty and staff relating to fiscal activity including various payment methods such as One Cards and T&E - Serve as one of several liaisons for inquiries requiring interpretation of business policies and procedures to faculty and staff. Provide information and interpretation to department units regarding appropriateness of expenditures, financial coding, extension requirements, and changes in policies and procedures.
  • Participate in a support capacity in meetings and committees involving areas of responsibilities.
Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities maybe expected in order to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.

This position reports to the Business Manager who oversees the management of the fiscal operations.

Salary

Salary commensurate with education and experience.

Salary Range: $13.27 - $18.00 hourly

Grade: GGS - 006

Shift

Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of experience in an administrative or fiscal capacity is preferred.

Detail-oriented and enjoys working in a collaborative, energetic, team environment.

Proficient with business applications such as Microsoft Office software (especially Excel).

Familiarity with PeopleSoft is helpful.
