Parker University is seeking full-time campus-based faculty in the Diagnostic Sonography Program to teach didactic, laboratory and clinical courses.

 

JOB OBJECTIVES:  To provide students with core knowledge in the applicable program of study. This includes educating them to successfully complete appropriate licensing exams, participate in wellness promotion, health assessment, diagnosis, and case management of a patient's health care needs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Course Management:  Faculty members are responsible to design, deliver and manage their course in accordance with the guidance provided to them by their direct supervisor.  This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • Prepare and adhere to a syllabus in Parker’s required format.
  • Clearly communicate course requirements, means of evaluation, deadlines, and policies to students.
  • Hold classes and laboratories as scheduled; take attendance and submit it timely.
  • Develop high-quality means of evaluating student learning outcomes and apply them fairly and consistently in accordance with Parker policies, as well as methods and timelines set forth in the syllabus.
  • Submit final grades and required course documentation timely.
  • Follow Parker policies and procedures in all elements of course management.
  • Address student concerns identified in course evaluations.

 

  • Student Interaction:  Faculty members generally have more direct contact with students than any other institutional employee and are responsible to manage that contact consistent with the highest ethical and professional standards.  
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.
  • Respond timely to student e-mails and voicemails.
  • Provide advising and additional academic support including maintaining required office hours to review examinations and other graded work and directing student towards appropriate resources.
  • Monitor student performance and attendance, contact students at risk, submit early alerts when appropriate.
  • Fairly and consistently apply Parker academic and student conduct policies.

 

  • Curricular and Programmatic Quality, Integrity, and Review:  The faculty, within the framework provided by programmatic accreditation standards and institutional vision and mission, has responsibility for curricular maintenance and improvement.
  • Assist in vertical and horizontal integration of curriculum.
  • Participate in Quality Enhancement Plan, OSCE exams, and other activities designed to evaluate student learning outcomes.
  • Contribute to maintenance and/or improvement of programmatic outcomes such as National exam scores, Student Satisfaction Surveys, Graduate Exit Surveys, etc.
  • When applicable, the Lead Faculty in a discipline, within the framework provided by accreditation standards and institutional vision and mission, is responsible for leading curricular maintenance and improvement with direct involvement of the other faculty in the discipline.

 

  • Professionalism and Scholarly Activity:  Faculty members are part of the overall institutional team and are expected to not only contribute to the success of their individual courses and/or program, but also to the success of the University as a whole.
  • Engage with all Parker stakeholders in accordance with Parker values, policies and procedures.  
  • Respond timely to requests from direct supervisor, as well as other University offices.
  • Attend and participate in University events, including scheduled faculty meetings and three commencements per year.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development in discipline(s) taught and educational methods.
  • Contribute to scholarly works.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

          EDUCATION/EXPERTISE: 

  • Must possess a minimum of an Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) years clinical work experience
  • Must possess ARDMS credentials.  
      RDMS in Abdomen, OB/GYN 
    • RVT
  • Experience/Expertise in instruction, course/curriculum development, design, outcome assessment/evaluation, and academic advisement highly preferred.
  • Evidence of continual professional development and the ability to do continuous scholarly or creative activity  
  • Experience with online teaching and the Blackboard learning management system is preferred but not required.

          PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to conduct classroom laboratory and or online courses. 
  • Visual acuity to use a keyboard and view a computer terminal.  Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. 
  • May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand and walk. 
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry and/or move medium to heavy weight up to fifty (50) pounds and/or exert up to fifty (50) pounds of force.

          JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/ETC.: 

  • Competence in their respective field of study.
  • Must show promise as an effective teacher.
  • Effective communication in the English language, both verbal and written. 
  • Proficiency with appropriate lab equipment.
  • Proficiency in software applications common in higher education environments, such as the Microsoft Suite student information systems, and Learning Management Systems
  • Organizational skills
  • Compliance with the applicable state and federal laws and regulations and accepted industry standards as associated with courses taught in their respective discipline.
  • Professional dress and demeanor; positive attitude and willingness to work with other faculty as part of a team and be supportive of the University.
  • Participate in service activities.
