    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Office of Professional Development and Career Services provides support and guidance and helps to build a strong community of learners as they strive to become the leaders of tomorrow.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Develops and implements strategic and proactive professional development and career services opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students as well as to alumni at Kentucky State University.



    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Develops and implements strategic and proactive career development opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni at Kentucky State University.
  • Manage the Director of Career Services to engage in extensive outreach on and off-campus, working with faculty, alumni, industry and government partners, and other relevant constituent groups to create a shared vision around career readiness and success.
  • Manager the Director of Career Services to lead the ongoing development of a robust network committed to supporting that vision as an integral component of the academic mission of KSU.
  • Develops short and long-range operating plans, including budgets, programs and services, personnel technology/other equipment, and space.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to staff, including training, staff evaluation, professional development, and related personnel matters.
  • Oversees the completion of planning and coordinating of all college events and services that prepare students for internships and employment and provide employment opportunities.
  • Monitors budget allocations for personnel, materials, supplies, travel, other contractual and meeting expenses for Career Services and any grant-related budget
  • Conducts ongoing assessments as required to identify emerging student needs in the area of career development and evaluate departmental performance.
  • Participates in local and state-level professional activities which support the mission of Career Services.
  • Responsible for ensuring the completion and preparation of semi-annual job placement reports.
  • Responsible for the overall administration of grant-related activities for Career Services including writing, monitoring, reporting, and identifying funding opportunities to assist in sustaining and growing Career Services initiatives and activities.
  • Manages Director to ensure day-to-day operations including strategic planning, assessment and budgeting, and supervision of staff is completed
  • Manages Director with oversight of departmental processes and management of the department.
  • Establish good working relationships within the Division of Student Engagement and Success and academic departments and others that are key to the department's operations. Participate in university-wide events, committees, and special projects. Plan, design, and oversee the delivery of career development workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Holds a minimum educational requirement of a Master's degree in business, educational administration, counseling, college student personnel or related field.
  • Has a minimum of five (5) years of managerial experience in career planning and employment work, preferably in a centralized operation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), computers, and databases.
  • Experience supervising professional staff, including counselors and counselors-in-training.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; strong presentation skills, and strong interpersonal skills to be able to build relationships with students, employers, administration, faculty, staff, alumni and parents.
  • Demonstrated effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform and knowledge of administrative duties such as budgeting and expenditures of resources, strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position has supervisory responsibility.

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort is required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
