Position Summary

The ARMAS Supplemental Instruction Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing the Supplemental Instruction Program and will be extensively involved with students, staff, departments and the public in carrying out ARMAS Center activities; coordinating schedules and monitoring student activities consistent with the project goals and objectives. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program at the ARMAS Center; including:

* Work with faculty to identify and nominate supplemental instruction Leaders (SILs);

* Create and maintain a current grade matrix for possible SIL nominees;

* Review and update SIL and Faculty SI handbooks as needed;

* Provide orientation to SILs and faculty prior to beginning of each semester;

* Publicize SI Program and ARMAS services;

* Support and assist SILs in promoting sessions and ARMAS services;

* Review applications, interview and select SILs based on faculty and ARMAS staff input;

* Prepare all hire forms for SILs;

* Introduce SIL program and SILs to classes first week of class;

* Coordinate class schedule with SILs schedules to determine SIL office and session hours;

* Develop and distribute master schedule for SI sessions and SIL office hours;

* Develop and provide weekly SIL training meetings based on SI best practices;

* Regularly observe NMHU SIL sessions, provide written feedback to SILs and maintain SIL files;

* Monitor and update SI attendance in LabTracker;

* Maintain SIL employee files;

> Identify and provide support to STEM transfer students;

> Collaborate with STEM departments to develop graduate assistant training;

> Maintain regular attendance;

> Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements

EDUCATION : Bachelor’s Degree

EXPERIENCE : Three (3) years’ experience in training and advising students.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred: 2-4 years of experience providing supplemental instruction or peer mentoring training and supervision. Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

* Knowledge of the student policies and procedures;

* Knowledge of institution’s undergraduate catalog;

* Knowledge of best practices in peer learning;

* Knowledge and experience in building/fostering alliances and working collaboratively;

* Must be able to work well with a diverse student and faculty population;

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products.

Physical Demands

* Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer;

* Must occasionally lift and/or move up to forty (40) pounds;

* Sitting for extended periods of time;

* Kneel, bend, reach and stoop;

* Walking for extended periods of time;

* Ability to see within normal parameters;

* Ability to hear within normal range.

Working Environment

* Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment;

* Work with frequent interruptions.

Pay Rate
$42,000
