The University of Delaware Library, Museums and Press seeks a
detail-oriented individual to assist users at the Help Center and
coordinate the billing of Library materials for the Library,
Museums and Press. Provide backup service desk coverage for the
Education Resource Center and serve as the operational contact for
the branch libraries, including the Physics Library and Chemistry
Library on the Newark campus, and the Marine Studies Library on the
Lewes campus. This is a 12-month, full-time, nonexempt
position.
Major Responsibilities
- Act as primary contact for billing questions from library borrowers. Discuss overdue notices and explain library policies and procedures regarding the circulation of the collection. May include in-depth auditing to determine all material currently charged to the individual and the amount owed on their account. Process billing forms for University student borrowers via UDSIS and for non-University student borrowers via PeopleSoft. Create and process bills on an as needed basis for the Student Multimedia Design Center, Education Resource Center (ERC), and Interlibrary loan. Process Interlibrary Loan invoices. Act as a liaison between Interlibrary Loan, the University's Cashiers Office, Library Administrative Services, and borrowing institutions.
- Provide services at the Help Center desk. Duties include: checking books, ILL, equipment, and film and video collection on-hold materials in and out; providing information services using electronic resources, including demonstrating basic search techniques in DELCAT Discovery; interpreting policies and procedures for library users; assisting users with print release stations, printers, and scanners; assisting instructors and students with using course reserve services.
- Ensure that the branch libraries are open and accessible, the collection and space are maintained, and maintain departmental relationships to communicate information about branch library operations, including relationships with the Library liaisons in those subject areas.

Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or GED and two to three years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of library records, automated library systems and other specialized library databases, and procedures in specific library operations.
- Ability to perform difficult bibliographic searches and to research challenging citations in a variety of library databases and the Internet.
- Demonstrated ability to work with complex transactions and to perform detailed and accurate work while dealing with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to follow complex instructions, to work independently and to devise solutions to problems. Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
- Experience using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and Web-based applications.
Preferred:
- Previous customer service experience. Experience as billing coordinator or a similar role.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, with or without assistance, boxes of books and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, push and pull full book carts weighing up to 250 pounds, and bend and reach to place books and journals on library shelves ranging from 3 to 90 inches high.
Work Hours: The standard workweek is Sunday, 10:30 am - 7:00
pm and Monday - Thursday, 8:30 am - 5 pm. Hours may vary for winter
and summer sessions and semester breaks.
