Job Description Summary

Production Safety Compliance Supervisor will perform all duties and responsibilities under the guidance and supervision of Dodge College.

They will be responsible for creating, enacting, and updating production safety programs for students that encompass government health and safety regulations as well as industry standards for safety in the college. They will also be responsible for ensuring that all university health and safety policies and practices are implemented and adhered to during Dodge College activities. Train students on the importance of health and safety in the production premises. Advise productions on best practices related to health and safety. Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the legal guidelines. Ensure required health compliance training for all crew, talent, etc. is provided.

Serve as the supervising contact and response for health and safety compliance concerns. Monitor the cast, crew, catering and craft service for compliance with current industry protocols. Authority to pause or cancel production activities in the event that a breach in compliance threatens the health of the college affiliates, cast or the crew.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and enforce all Chapman University, federal, state and local regulations, guidelines, protocols and policies/procedures relating to the safeguarding of cast and crew from health hazards throughout the entire physical production process (pre-production to wrap)
  • Identify and assess hazards, risks and control measures for a specific operation or process
  • Supervise the on-set student monitors, ensuring they are deployed appropriately, tasks are delegated and completed, and all safety protocols are being followed
  • Conduct ongoing review of operations and processes to identify potential hazards, risks and control measures that should be implemented to reduce these risks, including all costs involved in implementing such measures
  • Administer screenings (in the form of medical questionnaires and temperature checks using non-contact infrared thermometers) to all staff, faculty, fellows, crew, talent, etc., at key access points using Chapman screening protocols and interpret results to determine viability for entry
  • Supervise the operation of any potential hazards in the workplace
  • Improve workplace safety and employee productivity by transitioning from manual safety procedures to digital safety management systems
  • Ensure that all student productions meet all OSHA requirements
  • Assess and document hazards, risks and controls in a manner consistent with established procedures and practices
  • Report cases of positive and negative responses according to established protocols while remaining cognizant of appropriate reporting requirements
  • Ensure that initial training and ongoing education of cast and crew relating to Infectious Disease precautions and Production policy is conducted and validated. This will include on set Covid safety meetings.
  • Work in conjunction with production stakeholders (Producer, and 1st A.D. etc.) to review and assess, both pending and secured, locations for Infectious Disease protection requirements and safeguarding
  • Monitor key points of set entry, exit, and traffic flow areas to ensure proper social distancing and general safety. Use of proper signage at each location where applicable
  • Ensure personal protective and hygiene equipment is being utilized by all personnel on set
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standard health and safety best practices, providing recommendations and advice to production management and academic leadership
  • Attend and contribute to task force meetings relating to health and safety on-set
  • Stay current on Health and Safety standards through regular trainings and education.

Required Qualifications
  • Understand the dynamics on a production set EMT or Assistant Director training In depth knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA / EPA ) and procedures Knowledge of SAG health and safety protocols Knowledge of current federal, state, and local health guidelines pertaining to Covid-19
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the university.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others in complex situations.
  • Exceptionally detail oriented while maintaining high volume of work with quick turnaround
  • Strong writing skills for communicating with supervisors, faculty, staff, and vendors
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to frequent interruptions
  • Ability to use tact and to maintain confidentiality in both oral and written communications.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Outlook, internet usage and database management
  • Undergraduate Degree
Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate degree preferred
