Basic Qualifications

  • This position will be based on our campus in Cambridge, MA. Our current model is a minimum of 2 days in the office.

Position Description

Reporting to the Accounting Manager and working with groups across the University, the Accountant II independently performs a variety of accounting activities including:
  • Review and Upload of Journal Entries
  • Review FAS Balance Sheets on a quarterly basis to ensure reconciliations have been completed in accordance with University requirements
  • Create/review reconciliations:
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Petty Cash Reconciliations
    • uStore (website which accepts credit cards) Reconciliations
    • Short Term Operating Advance (STOA)
    • Reimbursable Travel
  • Monthly Allocation on Touchnet Fees (gateway for cost-effective credit card payment solutions)
  • Monthly/Quarterly Billings
    • Harvard University IT (HUIT)
    • Phone
    • Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI)
    • The BROAD Institute
  • Escheat Checks review and related follow-up
  • Assist with monthly income/expense and default reviews
  • Payment Card Industry (PCI) Compliance coordination
  • Journal Entry Controls including review documentation per University Controls and ensuring completion of the process on a monthly basis
  • Process all invoices for Finance Department staff & research discrepancies as required
  • Update Finance website
  • Manage royalty payments, including verification of agreements, to faculty members.
  • Distribute Finance communications as required, including quarterly and year-end deadlines.
  • Manage the FAS Accounting Inbox
  • Run Allocations for Gift/Endowment assessments
  • Run Quarterly Flux Templates
  • Manage annual Representation Letter collection
  • Monitors Faculty Start-Up posted incorrectly
  • Review Transaction Listing for Non-Payroll Activities in Finance Organization
  • Process restitution checks
