Position Description

Admissions Operations: Leads the office of admissions, which processes over 20K applications per year. Oversees all aspects of graduate and special student/visiting fellow admission, establishes admissions processes and systems, analyzes application and enrollment trends, and provides management reports and recommendations to GSAS leadership, FAS divisions and departments, and the standing committees overseeing the 18 interfaculty PhD programs. Develops, implements, and interprets admissions policies and strategic goals in close collaboration with the Dean.

Financial Aid Operations: Leads GSAS financial aid operations, developing and implementing policies and procedures that directly impact a student body of 4800 across 58 academic programs. Develops strategic plans and initiatives in collaboration with the Dean. Oversees GSAS participation in federal Title IV aid programs, with overall responsibility for compliance with federal regulations, internal and external audit requirements, and financial controls. Staff supervision: Manages a staff of 7 direct reports and 14 indirect reports: provides guidance and leadership, interviews and hires staff, assigns and reviews work, conducts annual performance reviews, and takes corrective action, up to and through termination as needed. Student case management: Oversees the appointment process for 3300+ GSAS Teaching Fellows and administers TF policies to assure compliance with FAS rules governing teaching. Renders decisions on student petitions for exceptions to teaching and enrollment policies. Serves as a member of the GSAS Administrative Board, providing input and feedback on student disciplinary matters. Committee participation: Represents GSAS on University-wide and external committees and provides guidance and leadership in facilitating compliance, training, and best practices in graduate admissions and financial aid. Serves as GSAS point person and liaison with colleagues at peer institutions, working in collaboration to identify national trends in graduate education and formulate responses. Works closely with Harvard's federal relations teams on related policies and legislative issues.

GSAS Strategic Planning: Serves as a member of the GSAS senior leadership team, working in collaboration to develop and achieve strategic goals and support the Dean's priorities and efforts in areas such as recruitment, diversity, student programming, professional development initiatives, retention, resource allocation, communications and alumni relations. In partnership with the dean and dean for administration and finance, negotiates and implements financial and operational agreements with other Harvard faculties to ensure successful operation of the interfaculty degree programs.
