The Music Industry program in the West Texas A&M University School of Music seeks a highly-motivated individual with academic credentials and professional experience to join a dynamic, student-centered comprehensive music program. The School of Music serves approximately 300 undergraduate and masters-level graduate students with 42 full- and part-time faculty. West Texas A&M University is a state-assisted member of the Texas A&M University System, enrolling just over 10,000 students, located in Canyon/Amarillo metropolitan area. The School of Music is fully accredited by NASM, and offers Bachelor of Music degrees in performance, music therapy, composition, music business in arts management, and music technology and the Bachelor of Music Education. Graduate degrees include the Master of Arts in Music and the Master of Music in Performance, and the post-baccalaureate Harrington Certificate in String Quartet Performance. A rich cultural environment includes the Amarillo Symphony, Amarillo Opera, Chamber Music Amarillo, Lone Star Ballet, and several other arts-oriented organizations.

Work Performed:

Duties of this position include teaching the music technology program, co-coordinating the two-degree options in the music industry field: music business and music technology, and supervision of student recording crew. Experience and background in music recording is essential. Teaching areas will include, but are not limited to, courses in music technology including Introduction to DAW, Audio Recording, Signal Processing, Mixing Techniques and Practicum courses. Possibilities for offering courses in or for the Department of Media Communications may also exist for an appropriately qualified candidate. Expectations for intellectual/creative contributions include research, presentations at professional meetings, and/or creation of audio and/or video recordings. Service to professional organizations and conference attendance are also expected.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Recording Technology, Entrepreneurship, Music Industry, or closely related fields

  • ProTools instructor certification.

  • Ability to secure placement of interns in a variety of music industry settings.

  • Knowledge of, and professional experience in, the entertainment (music) industry.

  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree in Music Industry, Entrepreneurship, Recording Technology or closely related fields

  • Ability to secure placement of interns in a variety of music industry settings.
