Position Overview:

Reporting to the Director, Business & Resource Development, the Deputy Director, Business & Resource Development will: 1) provide exceptional ability to raise $200,000 in new major gifts each year for the next three years from individuals, foundations, and corporations 2) have the capacity to research and solicit potential $25,000 prospects; and 3) the ability to write proposals and grant reports on a timely schedule with all required documentation, as required. The candidate must be able to utilize a CRM, preferably Donor Perfect.  This position has no direct reports but has support from the Development Assistant on an as-needed basis.

 

What You’ll Be Doing Day-to-Day:

 

  • Manage a portfolio of 60-75 (25 in Year 1, 40 in Year 2, and 60 min. in Year 3) active and prospective major donors $25,000-$100,000. This includes building relationships to secure and manage gifts, writing proposals, conducting donor meetings and briefings, briefing Executive staff for high-level meetings, managing timely and accurate benefits delivery, and completing other routine front-line fundraising activities for largely unrestricted revenue or related to the priorities indicated herein.
  • Support the Director, Business & Resource Development in managing including coordinating prospects briefings or in-person roundtable events, and other stewardship and benefits delivery.
  • Support the Director in developing and executing a plan for prospecting and major donor outreach throughout the country.
  • Partner with The Arc program staff to cultivate relationships with both active and prospective donors, staying nimble and current on program and policy messaging as priorities and urgencies change.
  • Manage and draft all grant applications for both foundation and corporate prospects.
  • Develop a strong fluency in The Arc’s mission and key funding priorities.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records in DonorPerfect to ensure quality reporting and transparency throughout the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed to move forward The Arc’s individual giving portfolio

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Masters degree in nonprofit management, communications, business, or CFRE preferred.
  • At least three to four years of demonstrated front-line success in major donor fundraising, securing $25K+ gifts from individual donors, corporations, and foundations, managing the donor lifespan from prospecting and discovery to gifts and renewal to ongoing stewardship.
  • Demonstrated success in soliciting and renewing major gifts and grants by articulating a compelling case for support through multiple communication tools, including but not limited to written proposals, reports, budget documents, and verbal and visual presentations.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting projects including salon events, fundraising campaigns, or other timeline-based events. Ability to nimbly manage both online and in-person events.
  • Demonstrated success engaging others in fundraising strategies and tactics, inspiring fundraising enthusiasm and understanding throughout all levels of the organization or campaign.
