Job Description

Missouri Western State University, St. Joseph, Missouri, School of Fine Arts is inviting applications for two positions of Assistant Professor of Digital Animation. Serving the Northwest Missouri region, MWSU is also a 45- minute drive from Kansas City, MO, 2 hours from Omaha, NE, and 3 hours from Des Moines, IA.

About the Program: The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Animation degree equips students with a proficiency in animation techniques and practices, artistic and technological skills, storytelling and design skills, an understanding of aesthetics, and a general education that merges practical experience into a coordinated, coherent major. Our program offers an affordable education, encourages practice across all media and technology, inspires critical thinking and creativity, and provides advanced digital tools and theory to succeed as animators and visual effects artists in the entertainment, interactive media, and game design industries.

The School of Fine Arts seeks innovative and collaborative individuals who are capable of teaching a wide range of courses at the undergraduate level, and further developing the curriculum to facilitate student applied learning outcomes. Applied learning refers to any activity in which students use course content, models, theories, and/or skills in real-world and/or hands-on settings to support career readiness. This includes a wide range of opportunities including field trips, fieldwork, internships, leadership, mentored research, performances, clinical practica, service-learning, student teaching, and more. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and education.

The successful candidate will be able to teach classes in2D and 3D animation fundamentals motion graphics, game art design, 3D advanced study in animation and possibly teach art foundation courses. The successful candidate will oversee the direction of the program, develop the senior portfolio review process, teach an average of 3-4 studio courses per semester, and be eager to work in a multi- or interdisciplinary environment to prepare students for careers in digital media.

Assistant Professors are responsible to educate students, engage in original research and creative activities that are published or presented in peer-reviewed settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
• Teaching: teach undergraduate and graduate students in a specific field of expertise; participation in programs that promote instructional development in the discipline; develop and manage curricular materials, ensuring that they meet departmental and university standards; participation in campus initiatives related to teaching such as learning communities, honors programs, and applied learning.

• Scholarship: engage in scholarly and creative activities leading to peer-reviewed artifacts, performances, and/or exhibitions including basic research or creative expression, reviews and/or integrates prior research, applies current knowledge and innovations to important practices, and focuses on the nature and improvement of teaching.

• Service: document students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade; plan and create lectures, in-class activities, and assignments; maintain currency in one’s area of expertise and discipline; provide academic advising and support related to the academic progress of students; is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success; engage in service activities in support of departmental, college, and university needs; service supporting community outreach; and service to relevant professional organizations; participate in student recruitment efforts as assigned.

• Clearly understands curriculum design, pedagogy, and learning outcomes assessment

Required Qualifications

• Candidates must have an M.F.A. in Digital Animation, Game Design, or related field, display a commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts institution.
• Must demonstrate a record of scholarly or professional achievement, and demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent working knowledge of Mac and P.C. computers and the ability to encourage critical thinking and problem solving is essential.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

• Processes or Topics: Storyboarding Compositing (Fusion or After Effects) Motion Graphics
• Software: Adobe Creative Cloud: After Effects, Animate, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Substance Painter Autodesk Maya DaVinci Resolve, particularly Fusion Mudbox or Zbrush Core Unreal or Unity Game Engine Zoom
