Job Description:

The Program Coordinator position is a part-time, twelve-month position in the Student Diversity and Multicultural Office. The Program Coordinator will lead multicultural programming by developing and implementing programs that celebrate diversity, affirm identity, and promote authentic inclusion. This position will also work to develop supportive spaces and work with other departments across campus to highlight diversity and inclusion efforts. This work will be done within the context of Fairfield University Diversity and Inclusive excellence statement. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to assist with the planning the first year multicultural retreat, international education week, and first generation celebration day. They will also collaborate on programs for nationally recognized heritage celebrations and holidays(i.e. Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American History Month, Kwanzaa, Martin Luther King Jr.Day Celebration, Black History Month, St. Patrick's Day, etc.), manage evening and week end programs and events, assist with assessment and retention efforts aimed at supporting students from underrepresented communities, and serve as a mentor within the Cura Personalis Mentoring program. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs.

Essential Functions- Organization and Planning of Multicultural Programs:

·Plan multicultural programs or Fall and Spring semester including all recognized heritage celebrations.

·Assess and evaluate implemented programs and activities

.·Develop and distribute SDMA newsletters and marketing materials

·Attend and supervise student sponsored activities at Fairfield University.

·Collaborate with student groups in planning and coordinating various student programs and functions that align well with the office’s mission.

·Locate and organize information pertaining to a variety of programs in co-curricular areas for presentation to the different student groups and faculty/staff advisors.·Serve as a liaison between student and appropriate staff related to student activities

·Ability to maintain, analyze and keep track of funds and programming budget

·Support with the management, supervision and professional development of SDMA student workers.

·Serve on Student Affairs and University groups and committees as assigned

.·Manage Instagram and other appropriate social media outlets

Student Services:

·Assist in the recruitment, retention for the Academic Immersion program

·Participate in the planning of the Academic Immersion Program

·Work closely with the Program Coordinator for Fairfield United in supporting student signature events per semester for all Affinity organizations

·Plan key programs that is geared towards in the development and success of under represented students

·Serve as a mentor for the Cura Personalis Mentoring program

·Participate in key campus-wide programs as directed by the Director

·Assist in the planning of the first year Multicultural retreat for under represented students

·Serve on the University Program committee

Required Qualifications:

·Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team

·Ability to train student leaders in areas of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion

·Acknowledge and address issues of multiculturalism, cross-cultural Intersections, racism, sexism, heterosexism, homophobia, classism, religious oppression, cultural appropriation, sexism, ableism, inclusive excellence etc

.·knowledge of issues surrounding underrepresented communities on campus

·Must be willing to work evenings and occasional weekends

·Strong organizational skills

·Ability to lead, conduct meetings and manage multiple projects

·Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills

·Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

Other Duties as assigned by the Director of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree required,Master’s preferred. Applicants should have some background or interest in student affairs administration/college student personnel, school psychology, special education, counseling, education, or related areas. Applicants must have demonstrated experience and/or interest inworking in diversity and multicultural education, student programs, and leadership development. Applicants with strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and experience working with a diverse student population and professionals are desired.
