Job Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 15 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

The position will work within the Developmental Disabilities and Genetics Clinical Services work unit and will include assessment services within an interdisciplinary outpatient setting for children referred for neurodevelopmental evaluations.

This position will supervise psychology trainees, collaborate on research related to neurodevelopmental disabilities and may also work with clinical research.

Responsibilities:

(70%) Direct Clinical Services:
- Serve as a member of Waisman Center Clinical Services team and provide clinical psychology services to individuals and families served in the Waisman Center Clinics.
- Assist with the planning of interdisciplinary (ID) clinic visits and review of records and preparations for ID or discipline only services.
- Participate and collaborate in interdisciplinary evaluations as requested.
- Conduct skilled assessment and analysis of psychological performance and evaluations of relevant developmental skills (e.g., developmental assessments with young children, autism diagnostic evaluations, cognitive testing).
- Screen for cognitive concerns and provide consultation and technical assistance to families and community service providers based on findings.
- Document results of assessments and other clinical services in compliance with Waisman Center and UW Health requirements, including electronic medical records, interdisciplinary reports, and annual reports.

(20%) Teaching and Training:
- Work with the WI LEND Psychology Liaison at the Department of Educational Psychology to develop and maintain a strong working relationship between the WI LEND Training Program and the Department.
- Collaborate with the Department of Educational Psychology faculty in recruitment, supervision and evaluation of psychology students who are UCEDD trainees.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for psychology or other trainees in clinics.
- Provide clinical supervision and training to psychology trainees in the clinics.
- Participate in local and state training activities, lecture in University courses on topics related to developmental disabilities, ASD, family issues, maternal and child public health.
- Coordinate and provide clinical educational experiences for students, including providing an observation site for individuals considering psychology as a career, coordinate student activities with other clinicians at the center.

(10%) Other Duties to Support Core Functions of UCEDD:
- Participate in activities to support the core functions (conducting training, model services, research, evaluation and dissemination) of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC) in accomplishing the goals and mission of each center.
- Engage with staff and investigators to conduct and further research related to psychology, intellectual and developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorder.

Education:

Required
Terminal Degree
Doctoral degree in Clinical or School Psychology.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have the following required experiences and knowledge:
- Two years of specialized training and experience working with clients with developmental disabilities and their families. The two years of specialized training or experience may be pre-doctoral or post-doctoral but must be intensive (20 hours per week or more) and focused on this client population.
- Clinical experience working with children and youth with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities and their families, including experience providing assessment and treatment.
- Assessment skills in the areas of cognitive, adaptive behavior and socio-emotional/behavioral functioning. Substantial experience with autism specific diagnostic measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2).
- Demonstrated skill and experience in supervising psychology trainees.

Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience:
- Prior experience providing diagnostic and evaluation n services with children and youth with developmental disabilities, especially autism spectrum disorder.
- Research reliability on the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and/or Autism Diagnostic Interview, Revised (ADI-R).
- Experience supervising psychology trainees.
- Familiarity with the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development 4th edition and Mullen scales of Early Learning.
- Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Prior graduate or staff/faculty in a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) funded training program such as LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities).

License/Certification:

Required
PSY - Psychologist - State Licensure
Must be licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Wisconsin or eligible to practice in the State of Wisconsin within six months of hire.
