Position Summary

The Research Assistant is responsible for working with the Project Director & Project Coordinator in the implementation of human subjects research conducted with men and women entering traditional Drug Treatment Court and Opioid Intervention Court within the 8th Judicial Courts.

This is a grant-supported position with anticipated funding through September 29, 2022. The individual will be assigned to the “A Rigorous Evaluation of the Opioid Intervention Court Strategy- A Public Health Response” project under the supervision of Principal Investigators Drs. Linda Kahn & Gregory Homish and Project Director D. Lynn Homish, MS and will be an employee of The Research Foundation of SUNY .

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
Incumbent will:
  • Describe the study procedures to potential participants
  • Evaluate eligibility & obtain informed consent as appropriate
  • Schedule participants and oversee the completion of computer-assisted structured interviews on physical and mental health behaviors.
  • Additionally, incumbent will be responsible for tracking and maintaining subjects’ contact information, scheduling and conducting follow-up assessments, and reviewing information located in participants’ court records.
  • Other duties include assisting with programming and testing of the computerized interview as well as populating and managing EndNote reference database. Incumbent will also perform other project-related tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree or two years formal training in Public Health, Psychology, or other health services required.
  • Six months previous experience working in a professional capacity involving contact with the public required.
  • Strong sensitivity to diverse populations, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy are integral to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, or other health services preferred. Psychosocial research recruiting/interview experience on grant funded awards.
  • Data management experience with REDCap and Stata preferred.
Physical Demands

Incumbent will be required to provide own transportation or otherwise demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job to and from the following research sites:
• Erie County Court, 25 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, NY 14202
• Lockport Court, One Locks Plaza, Lockport 14094
• Center for Health Research, South Campus

Transportation reimbursement will be provided for travel from UB campuses to Court locations.

Salary Range
$30,000 - $36,000
