The Lycoming College Art Department in Williamsport, PA invites applications for a one-year full time Visiting Assistant Professor of Art History for the 2022-23 academic year. Teaching will include introductory core courses and specialized upper-division courses of the candidate’s design. A Ph.D. in art history or related field is preferred, however ABD candidates will also be considered.

The specific area and period of specialization is open; however, the ability to teach survey courses covering global perspectives in art history from prehistoric to contemporary art is required. We encourage applications from candidates whose research and teaching focuses on issues including race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality and/or whose work takes a transnational, cross-cultural or multidisciplinary approach. Scholars with an area of specialization in Latin American, Latinx, African American, and/or Indigenous art are especially welcome.

The successful candidate will be integrated into a vibrant studio art program and there will also be opportunities for broader interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments.

Review of application materials will begin on June 1 and will continue until the position is filled. We actively seek to enhance the diversity of our department and are committed to promoting an inclusive environment. Persons of all genders, abilities, and racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Applicants should submit: a cover letter explaining your qualifications for, and interest in, the position; Curriculum Vitae; Teaching Statement that demonstrates your experience working with a diverse student population that includes majors and non-majors at all levels of instruction; names and contact information for three letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation should be emailed to jobs@lycoming.edu referencing the applicants name and position in the subject line.  Additional materials, including letters of recommendation, sample syllabi, and/or a writing sample, may be requested at a later date.
