Job Summary
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall administration of the Masters of Science in Analytics (MScA) program and day-to-day operations, including program planning and execution, admissions, recruitment, student affairs and faculty support. Directs the activity of a team of 12 -15 professional staff members and serves as a senior member of the MScA program leadership team which includes key MScA managers and clinical professors with significant program-related duties. Reporting the MScA Director, the Executive Director works closely with the leadership, staff, students, and faculty of the program to manage the day-to-day operations of the MScA program. Acts as a liaison between staff, faculty, students, and the Data Science Institute (DSI), the PSD Dean’s Office, University of Chicago Professional Education (UCPE) and other University of Chicago Offices to optimize the program and resolve high-level issues. Builds effective collaborative relationships with industry partners and employers. Partners with the MScA leadership team to maintain excellence in program planning and execution, and managing the program’s operations, students, faculty, and staff. Oversees and is responsible for the overall performance and administration of the program, including oversight and guidance for the functional areas including: program operations, data maintenance and reporting, creating and implementing policy, staff management academic appointments, faculty support, student advising and counseling, registration, course scheduling, academic issues, admissions and student recruitment, course evaluations, alumni development, communication and website maintenance, marketing and branding, capstone experience, career placement, and student communication. This position is eligible for a partially remote work schedule.
Responsibilities
- Leads the day-to-day operations of the MScA program including all program planning and execution, admissions, recruitment, student affairs, faculty support and staff direction.
- As a member of the MScA leadership team, sets the direction for the program, acts on pending issues, develops/maintains goals in all program dimensions.
- Supervises the managers and staff of the MScA program including time and attendance, performance evaluations, hiring, and position review. Responsible for providing leadership and direction as the team works towards our goals of student enrollment growth, increased student satisfaction and superior faculty support. Provides guidance with daily work, goals and longer-term career plans both through managers of teams as well as directly to individual contributors.
- Manages and directs student affairs for the MScA program including all aspects of the academic and administrative experience for students in all MScA programs of study including in-person and online modalities for full-time and part-time students.
- Oversees the full lifecycle of the student experience including onboarding of new students, communications, orientation events, course planning, registration, placement exams, foundational workshops and non-credit courses, course approvals.
- Ensures all students have appropriate staff support for course planning, medical and personal leaves of absence, course registration, individual counseling and academic advising, monitoring student progress, academic probation.
- Ensures that disciplinary and academic honesty violations are appropriately investigated and handled in consultation with the PSD Dean of Students.
- Oversees the support for student scholarships and internships.
- Directs and oversees internal communication to students, coordinating updates with the Dean of Students Office related to the academic calendar, curriculum changes, policy changes and other important deadlines.
- Oversees the management and execution of MScA boot camps and MScA non-credit courses.
- Directs and oversees the MScA admission process including setting admissions targets and deadlines for all MScA programs including both online and in-person modalities for part-time and full-time students.
- Designs and updates the program application.
- Leads information sessions and webinars, ensuring program staff appropriately counsel prospective applicants.
- Leads the evaluation of applicants and manages the offer process, implementing yield events tracking application data and creating reports as needed.
- Directs the support of MScA faculty, ensuring that course scheduling, room assignments, enrollment management, setting prerequisites, technical classroom set-up for both virtual and physical classrooms, utilization of Canvas platform and zoom for virtual connection, course evaluations, academic issues with students, payment and other support is organized and provided in a timely manner.
- Oversees the recruitment and assignment of TAs/graders based on course needs.
- Supports the instructor hiring process by participating in the application review, phone screening and interviewing.
- Oversees and manages the appointment and reappointment of instructors and other academic appointees, tracking deadlines and ensuring that cases are aligned with the University’s guidelines.
- Manages the staff hiring and performance management process in collaboration with PSD human resources, including reviewing job descriptions, interviewing candidates, and managing performance.
- Coordinates with UCPE non-degree team for faculty resource management across MScA and non-degree certificate courses.
- Directs and oversees the MScA Capstone Experience including the recruitment of industry partners to sponsor student projects; Works to develop and improve the real-world project experience for students as they prepare industry positions.
- Directs the MScA marketing efforts in partnership with UCPE including overseeing and maintaining the program's website and social media presence, identifying marketing strategies, budgeting and media planning.
- Oversees monthly newsletter and alumni profiles, program collateral including career outcomes report, and promoted products.
- Directs MScA career placement and alumni networking activities including career fairs, career development workshops and alumni events.
- Works with an alumni committee to design and host both virtual and in-person annual alumni events. Meets with students for resume review, counseling on job search strategies, and networking.
- Work closely with UChicagoGRAD and program career support staff to encourage student participation in services and career connection events.
- Manages other managers and professional staff by establishing annual performance goals, allocating resources, assessing annual performance, and determining individual merit, incentive and/or promotional increases.
- Manages program operations and administrative functions to include planning and scheduling, program evaluation, policy implementation, personnel administration, budget, marketing, fundraising and proposal development.
- Recommends program content, policies and strategic planning efforts.
- Performs other related work as needed.
