Position Summary

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Further progress within this classification is based on department need and work assignments requiring higher levels of skills and knowledge.

FLSA: Exempt

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,792 per month

Hiring Range: $4,372-$5,376 per month

Salary Grade/Range: 2 (Career)

Work Hours: M-F 8-5; occasional other hours as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  • Instructional design theories, pedagogical methods, online/hybrid teaching strategies, and accessibility principles
  • Academic technologies such as learning management tools, survey tools, and video conferencing
  • Standards for quality online course design and remediation strategies for improving quality, such as Quality Matters.
  • Microsoft package applications including word, excel, PowerPoint, Teams

  • Skills
  • Demonstrated skill in developing course materials and training a wide range of audiences in the use of technology and universal design for teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated skill at the Information Technology Consultant - Career skill level, including the use of educational technology (hardware and software), university information systems, data sources and systems, and common office software packages (ex. Microsoft applications) and equipment (ex. scanners, video and audio recording devices).
  • Applied analytical and critical thinking skills to investigate, define, and analyze problems
  • Applied problem solving and conflict resolution skills to facilitate team work and mediate interpersonal communication.

  • Ability to design and develop face to face, hybrid, and online courses in consultation with faculty and staff
  • Ability to use interpersonal and intercultural communication skills to deliver course design, technology, and learning assessment workshops to technical and non-technical audiences at diverse levels of the organization (student assistants, staff, faculty, administrators)
  • Ability to work independently with self direction skills to initiate plans, organize, prioritize, multitask, and coordinate work in an innovative and fast paced unit with competing priorities and distractions.
  • Must be able to independently solve a wide range of technical and education technology problems by researching, developing, piloting, and assessing practical solutions
  • Ability to anticipate problems and address them proactively
  • Ability to work flexibly, respond to new center priorities, and collect and use data to inform and assess course design projects and collaborative teams
  • Ability to learn new hardware and software tools to design instructional materials and analyze data

    Education:

    16. Masters degree in instructional design, educational technology, computer or data science, information systems, or similar coursework or work experience

    Knowledge of:

    17. Equity issues in Higher Education teaching, learning and technology accessibility

    18. Alternative, formative, and low stakes learning assessment tools and formats

    Skills:

    19. Demonstrated skill with video capture and interactive software applications such as Camtasia, Playposit, Zoom, Panopto

    20. Demonstrated skill in creating hybrid, online, and hyflex courses that are taught by multiple instructors

    21. Creating program proposals, plans, and assessments (Ex. Program to redesign high fail rate or large equity gap courses)

    22. Experience working collaboratively in a higher education environment and adaptive design for accessible learning

    Abilities

    23. Capable of effective communication and listening skills to identify faculty and/or program needs and problems from multiple stakeholder perspectives.

    24. Ability to independently collect course design and faculty professional development program impact data and make presentations at campus meetings and CSU system and national education conferences.
