Job Description Summary

The Business/Systems Analyst will be a departmental resource for IS&T and will partner with Chapman University’s Human Resource department to gather, analyze, define, and document detailed business requirements to ensure their business needs, objectives, and goals are captured, and ultimately delivered. This incumbent will identify and resolve gaps to ensure requirements are complete, accurate, and actionable.

The Business/Systems Analyst will take a leadership role in data integration projects ensuring a high level of integrity, accuracy, and reliability of all data elements involved and impacted. System testing will be a key function of this business analyst as well as assisting functional users in their testing. In addition, this analyst needs to have a solid understanding of the PeopleSoft HCM module, specifically in regard to Position Management. This role will act as the primary contact for questions and concerns regarding PeopleSoft HCM system use, end-user requests, and workflow processes. Participate in projects as needed, adding functionality, upgrading, or implementing new systems for our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with university staff members to evaluate business processes, anticipate requirements, and uncover areas for improvement.
  • Develop and implement optimization strategies to streamline processes and improve workflows to support their end goals using PeopleSoft HCM, possibly PeopleSoft Finance and Campus Solutions.
  • Work with end-users to develop and execute robust test plans and test cases to support successful user acceptance testing.
  • Recommend policies and procedures to accompany new database features to ensure clarity and effective use of PeopleSoft applications.
  • Serve as a consultant to the various campus units for specified PeopleSoft projects as directed.
APPLICATION AND DATA SUPPORT
  • Identify and resolve data issues, working with stakeholders in various campus offices as needed.
  • Work with stakeholders to troubleshoot data issues related to the integration of constituent records between systems.
  • Participate in project meetings. Represent IS&T’s concerns and learn about other departments’ issues and successes.
  • Lead efforts to develop campus-wide data maintenance standards for the various data elements that exist in multiple applications to ensure all parties maintain the data in a way that ensures enterprise-wide data integrity and accuracy.
DOCUMENTATION AND TRAINING
  • Utilize Business Requirements Template to gather and document Detailed Business Requirements, enabling end-users to verify their business requests and provide approval sign-off.
  • Update existing or develop new business process templates when needed.
  • Provide newly hired staff with an introduction to IS&T’s system processes and workflows. Follow-up with staff when additional training is needed; provide support and knowledge transfer.
  • Take the lead in developing business process workflow and end-user documentation. Coordinate regular reviews and audits of existing materials with various stakeholders to ensure accuracy.
  • Work with IS&T training and communications when new or updated system functions are implemented

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and 5 years’ experience.
  • Proficient business knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM .
  • Strong technology skills with aptitude to learn and effectively utilize a variety of software tools at a “power user” level.
  • Strong business process design skills.
  • High level of comfort working in a mixed environment with many systems.
  • Demonstrated superior collaborative skills among a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on clear and effective customer interactions.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team and thrive in a creative, fast-paced environment; willingness to share new ideas with team members, with strong interpersonal skills to work in a diverse group environment.
  • Track record of actively participating in meetings with a variety of audiences on a large range of topics and priorities.
  • Impeccable attention to detail, accuracy, and quality of work.
  • Strong analytical skills with proven ability to analyze and prioritize requests; comply with data standards and policies and form valid conclusions.
  • Strong technical skills to learn and use enterprise and departmental systems and applications required for the position.
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to manage large volumes of data in an accurate and meaningful way.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities, to respond effectively to change, and to manage demanding work situations and deadlines.
  • Outstanding critical thinking capabilities with proven ability to problem solve creatively.
  • Possess personal integrity and the ability to appropriately handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to train and coach staff and communicate concepts.
  • Strong computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Knowledge of charitable gift policies and procedures, as well as general knowledge of the data and reporting needs of non-profit institutions.
