Position Description Summary/Purpose :
The Goodwin University School of Applied Liberal Arts and of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of History. Full-time faculty members at Goodwin University are responsible for maintaining the highest academic standards in their disciplines. Faculty teach 15 credits hours per semester- 3 semesters per year - online and on ground. They are expected to stay current with disciplinary trends and teaching methods; participate in university, professional, and community service; and engage in scholarly work related to teaching and learning.
Essential Duties:
Essential duties include, but are not limited to:
- Abiding by and upholding Goodwin's mission, policies, and core values.
- Advising assigned students concerning their academic plans and progress, academic schedule, and other academic activities.
- Teaching all courses according to approved syllabi.
- Ensuring that each course contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and maintains currency.
- Holding all assigned classes are as scheduled.
- Maintaining office hours as required, while maintaining a flexible schedule that best facilitates student learning and access.
- Assessing student academic achievement and modifying teaching techniques in accordance with assessment feedback.
- Submitting reports in an accurate and timely manner including attendance, grades, and other related documentation.
- Engaging with other faculty in the development, implementation, and evaluation of content area goals and curricular alignment based on assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Attending all university, school, and content area meetings as required.
- Attending professional learning activities to remain informed of current trends and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.
- Participating in service to the school, University, and the profession.
- Engaging in scholarly work relevant to disciplinary expertise (e.g., publications, presentations).
- Performing other related duties, as assigned by the Director of History and the Dean
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum master’s degree in History.
- Minimum two years of successful experience teaching History to undergraduates.
- Knowledge of current trends and practices in developing curriculum and instruction in undergraduate education.
- Experience with the application of and training in Universal Design for Learning.
- Ability to analyze, synthesize, and interpret student learning outcome data to improve teaching and learning.
- Established skill in teaching in on ground and on-line environments.
- Established skill in using web-based applications and learning management software.
- Proven ability to relate well to others within the higher education academic environment.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- A commitment to the academic, emotional, and social development of all students.
