Position Summary:

All Security Services staff members genuinely care for the community, are actively engaged, and demonstrate the high values of the university and department through their daily work. Additionally, they understand their work supports and affirms the mission of the institution.

Security Dispatchers serve as the communication hub of Security Services and is responsible for providing customer service to internal and external customers. Effectively gather, record, and disseminate information in support of Security operations as well as customer requests. Must be effective and maintain a professional and calm demeanor in stressful situations. Monitor burglar alarm, fire alarm and video camera software.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Dispatches security staff, via radio, to routine, priority and emergency calls for service.
  • Answers multi-line telephone for Security Services and, after hours, for Facilities Services, Conference Services and Campus Operator.
  • Maintains an accurate and detailed shift log while in high volume, hi pace environment.
  • Monitors fire and burglar alarms, security cameras, card access, 911 call monitoring system and other dispatch related computer programs.
  • Corresponds via telephone or radio with Tacoma Police and Fire Departments.
  • Notifies and dispatches Facilities staff, after hours, via radio or phone.
  • Provides information to and advises security and university administrative staff, including Resident Directors, who serve in an on-call capacity.
  • Greets visitors and provides information over the telephone and in person.
  • Responds effectively and competently to emergencies which may develop in the work space without immediate assistance or support.
  • Operates campus emergency mass communication systems for timely notification of the campus in the event of an emergency.
  • May take information over the phone to complete routine incident reports.
  • Provides support for the parking program, key control, and bicycle registration programs.
  • Receive, log, and notify recipients of deliveries and lost and found items.
  • Issue keys as necessary and directed.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of department standard operating procedures, incident response protocols, university policies and campus geography.
  • Advises and apprises as necessary on-duty officers and part-time student staff members.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned shifts and department trainings and meetings is required and an essential function of the position.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree, or prior experience with call and incident management software in security environment is preferred.
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community.
  • Must be able to speak clearly, listen attentively, read, write, and understand English.
  • The job offer to the successful candidate will be contingent upon the results of a background inquiry and drug test.

Compensation and Benefits: The anticipated budget for this position is $17.27 - $18.36 DOE. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

Shift differential pay for evening and night shifts.
