Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach TRS 152 Islam: Beliefs and Practices, in the traditional undergraduate program in Fall 2022.

This course will be taught on the Moraga campus, in person, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00pm - 5:40pm during the 2022 Fall term.

Course Description

The course introduces the students to the ideas that shaped Islamic history, from the early pre-Islamic period and the conditions prevalent at Islam's inception all the way to the present. The basic belief system, rituals, mystical traditions and Islamic societal interaction will be studied with ample references from the Qur'an and prophetic statements. The Prophet Muhammad will be explored in depth and various sources of historical record will be examined.


Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess an earned doctorate in theology and/or religious studies with a documented specialization in Islamic theology, thought, and culture (or have reached the ABD stage in their progress toward a doctoral degree [i.e., completion of all qualifying and competency examinations]). Preference will be given to candidates with evidence of teaching effectiveness, particularly among undergraduates.

Candidates must reside in California.
