The Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Assistant Coach reports directly to the Men's and Women's Swim and Dive Head Coach and helps in providing a creative vision and leadership for a comprehensive NCAA DIII swim and dive program.

The Assistant Men's and Women's Assistant Coach is responsible for working with the head coach to monitor the success of the swim program. This includes monitoring the health and well-being of a roster of over 30 student-athletes and developing and building a positive team culture. A commitment to student development and success and a high student and family interaction level is essential.

Job Duties:
  • Collaborating with the head coach, organizing, and implementing practice and swim meet plans.
  • Collaborating with the head coach, managing pool activities for the Rhodes varsity coaches and Athletics Training Staff using the pool for workouts and recovery sessions.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Athletics and head coach, assist in recruiting potential student-athletes for the program, including building a recruiting database and communicating with prospective student-athletes and their families.
  • Communicates effectively and often with the head coach, the student-athletes, and parents.
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of and understanding of NCAA compliance rules and regulations. In collaboration with the head coach, monitors and supports compliance efforts effectively, efficiently, and with a high degree of integrity.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Able to work independently in a highly productive and fast-paced environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of NCAA and SAA compliance rules; Proven leadership in a highly-functioning team environment; Knowledge and experience with college policies.
  • Ability to mediate and use problem-solving skills to conduct alternative dispute resolution.
  • Ability to provide perspective and utilize a proactive style of leadership that encourages teamwork, interaction, and positive culture.
  • Excellent written and communication skills; Full competence in using computer software packages for the office environment.
  • A thorough understanding of the organizational management of the Department of Athletics, including partnership building with students, faculty, staff, parents, and Rhodes alums.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and promote a campus climate of inclusion and participation by all students.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills and the ability to deal with complex and sometimes sensitive issues.
  • Commitment to the vision and values of the College.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective partnerships across campus; Ability to interact effectively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff, and families to establish and maintain good working relationships.


Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in a related field is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of swim coaching experience at the high school or college level.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are required. Must be student-centered and accessible, working cooperatively and efficiently with students and their families, faculty, staff, and alumni.
  • Must exhibit professionalism and diplomacy in working effectively with diverse constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize numerous projects requiring attention to detail and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and communication skills are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA compliance, rules, and regulations.


Physical Demands:

Medium Work: Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of energy constantly to move objects. Position involves both inside sedentary work and work in different fields and other fitness environments while coaching and training student-athletes. Lifting is required (i.e., set-up of scorers' table, etc.), and some manual labor is expected. In evening and weekend hours in all types of weather, travel is necessary.
